ESPN Asheville Makes Its Debut

Iheart to announce a sports talk station with ESPN Affiliation on 92.9 FM/880 AM/1400 AM

https://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n35580

iHeartMedia Asheville announced today the debut of the new ESPN Asheville 92.9 FM/880 AM/1400 AM, First for Sports in Western North Carolina, effective immediately.

ESPN Asheville 92.9 FM/880 AM/1400 AM will broadcast the ESPN Radio lineup featuring Golic and Wingo in the mornings. In addition, the regionally syndicated, David Glenn Show will air from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and The Paul Finebaum Show is in the 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. time slot. ESPN Asheville is also the new home for University of North Carolina Football and Basketball.

"I'm really excited we're bringing the ESPN format back to sports talk listeners here in Western North Carolina," said Brian Hall, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Asheville. "The ESPN brand aligns perfectly with our platform of top-rated iHeartMedia radio stations here in Asheville."

Liberal talk bites the dust in the People's Republic of Asheville, the one place it theoretically should work

the Revolution talk format has moved to a translator out of Candler according to All Access. Also noted I Heart is returning the Liberal talk format to the San Francisco market.

Well, it's about time they actually used 1400 AM for something. WWNC has such a strong signal it really doesn't need a simulcast partner.

Wait, what is WISE?

I don't know why, but in my Maggie Valley motel room, there was nothing but buzzing above 800, even on 1400. Below 1400 only WWNC had a listenable signal.

FM wasn't much better. The Planet (the radio is broken and won't pick up anything below 94), and then a very faint signal from "Asheville's Hit Music", and then an NPR translator. Then Kiss was so loud it startled me. Then WPTL, with a new translator. Then the NPR translator with classical music instead of talk, a very faint signal from Asheville's other CHR (or its only one, depending on what Mix actually is), The Mountain and Billy Graham's station.

WISE is 1310. Maggie Valley would be a great place to witness an ESkip opening. It's got very little in the way of other reception

I know WISE is 1310, but it was ESPN Radio and I thought that had not changed.

The ESkip would have to happen in the car, but I'm driving.
