Griffin buys Scrpps Tulsa radio cluster

Took long enough for this sale to happen...there certainly wouldn't be a quick re-sale. It's obviously not one of the eee-vil big corporate owners.
 
That a sale happened was, of course, no surprise, but the buyer came as quite a shock. I have to think, though, that my friends at 29th & Yale are pretty happy about this. From what I'd heard, there was a lot of anxiety in that building about the possibility of another rumored suitor getting them.

Maybe Griffin will beef up the local presence on KFAQ? I suppose I can hope. The only possible change I can see would be at 99.5. It gets decent numbers in the beauty contest ratings but skews old in the demos. It seems to have cut as much as it could, too. Pretty sure it’s down to one live and local shift.
 
I think that's the first thing Griffin does with KFAQ, using KOTV's resources could work for them and finally give KRMG a run for their money, I also agree with you on 99.5 changing their format along with 92.9 because I have no idea what their format is anyway.
 
I was always surprised Scripps never did much with the news presence on KFAQ other than air headlines from KJRH, though the previous regime there seemed to just follow the philosophy of, “If it makes you $1, you keep it.”

Last I heard 92.9 was performing respectably, but that was before KTSO signed on at 100.9. I couldn’t tell you how much, if at all, Totally Awesome 80's has cut into it. I know I usually flip on KTSO first and then The Drive when I visit family in Tulsa, but I usually find my favorite stations die quick deaths!
 
From my experience, Cox will do what it takes (as in spend) to stay on top.

Griffin has made its first change, KVOO drops Sunny Leigh, moves middayer Amber Glaze to mornings. It's a wonder how much longer Big Country 99.5 survives...
 
Sad to hear Sunny was let go, did she also do work on big country? I've only listened to khits and are they trying to avoid hip hop?
