WRRD/W269DL For Sale

Yet another station that couldn't make liberal talk work (big surprise). That asking price is kind of crazy for how small of a signal they have and what they are.

The heady price reflects the estimated value of the translator (which has awesome coverage) coupled with the daytimer, which sold for $760k in June '17. This is the same translator (now at a different frequency) that Scripps tried to wrestle away from WRRD, but lost.

It is true the translator increases the value of the property, but it is also still an unbuilt CP. Plus the fact that Crute WAY overpaid when He bought 1510 which had been, and continues 18 months later to bill almost no ad revenue. The land the towers sit on was actually the primary asset at the time of purchase, but even that's not worth anywhere near the $760,000 He paid for the station.

Here's the interesting thing about translators like this one: unlike any other class of FM signal, they don't have to be derated when they exceed a certain height.

And here's the interesting thing about FM in general: height matters almost as much as power does.

So, yes, the CP is for 200 watts - but 200 watts at 1000 feet high above Shorewood. Which, if you do the math, is what a 3 kW-equivalent class A signal would be able to run from that same height. It will be a metro signal, and then some. (Bonus: where's the nearest 101.7 signal to cause any interference? You have to go across the lake to Muskegon or way down to Dixon, Illinois to find any other 101.7 that could cause interference, which means the fringes of this translator will be much cleaner than your typical translator signal. It's a really good channel.)

Disclaimer: yes, I'm the broker handling this sale for Mike. But I wouldn't have listed it at this price if I couldn't support the valuation based on population count, comparable sales elsewhere and the underlying asset value of the AM site and equipment.

The Nurse and I are curious...has there been any listener reaction to the sale of WRRD? Hard to imagine anyone continuing the Resistance Radio format at the asking price of almost $1.5m.

What listeners?

You're right. Our revised post reads as follows: "..The Nurse and I are curious. Does anyone care that WRRD is for sale? Hard to imagine Resistance Radio continuing whether the station is sold or not. We're sorry for asking such a rhetorical question..."

:-----))

Wassup with the sale of WRRD? Listing is no longer on Scott Fybush's web site. Is there a deal, or is there no buyer at that price?

I'm guessing that Crute wants to either program the station or buy time after a sale would be complete and there is no takers, otherwise a likely buyer I could see is WPR? They could air there classical network and fill the last major coverage hole for both networks in the state.

Classical Radio on an AM station? Ugh. Do they have any of their Classical Network stations on any AM stations?

Once the translator is up almost all the listening will come from the FM in any format, it should have a coverage area as 106.9, a one time classical station. WPR just put on a translator in Wausau and put its Madison translator on the top of a TV tower and now has a coverage area of Madison's many class A stations (105.1, 92.1,105.5, 106.3 etc)

WRRD 1510 to go dark

Well, it's a wrap for WRRD's progressive talk format after a little over three years. The transmitter land has been sold and 1510 will be downgraded to 250 watts. The format's last day will be tomorrow.

Where will the new tower be? Or are they just keeping enough land for one in Waukesha?
There doesn't seem to be a silent STA filed yet if they are going dark.

Same land, theyre selling it off and keeping one tower

The five acres is listed for $550k and includes an 1800sq ft building PLUS two towers! No frontage road exposure, but just three blocks away from Les Paul Parkway. That's gotta be worth something!
