They say they're working on an improved signal. Supposedly they just started up on March 26.
Does anyone hear it? Is it smooth jazz or traditional?

A pirate? My vote is yes. An LPFM would be operating a licensed power (and anything other than what was approved on the CP would not get licensed)

LOL I'd let them relax until they're fully up. Besides with everything illegal that goes on with the FCC they're decent in my book, as the website says they're trying.

Having not yet gone to the FCC website to check them out, I can only assume they began with a short stick at some location to get the license and are looking to get better height somewhere else with a minor change. Sounds to me they might not be well funded. Most stations in their infancy have at least a computer to keep them on around the clock. Hopefully they have the dollars set aside for a minor change and are prepared to send off a monthly check for tower space. Considering the low cost of computers, you'd think they's have one with at least a free automation program to extend that 5 hour broadcast day (assuming they're not timesharing).

101.9 KJZX-LP is an FCC-licensed LPFM that covers Austin's East side. It's licensed to the Third Coast Activist Resource Center.

Looked them up on FCC, they're legit and on a 55 foot stick at about 50 feet HAAT. Thus, if their adjacent protection is okay, they should be able to go to 30 meters/100 feet on a nearby stick. I suppose it was the hard decision to spend money on a lesser signal in order to save money to move to a higher HAAT later or lose the CP and have nothing.

Yeah Its About Time We Get Another Jazz Station If They Had A Phone Number I Could Give Them A Call And Tell Them About The Interference 101.9 Knows About The Awful Waist Of Space Thats Going On In Round Rock You Can Already Hear Sports On 104.9 Which Is The Same Station I Might Add I Feel Sorry For KQXT San Antonio Very Much As Well I Knew This Channel Since 1997 When They Called 101.9 KQ102 Soft AC

You should contact the jazz station through their website.
They now have something up asking for listener reports and complaining about the sports station from Round Rock on 101.9 (sports station has bad audio and sounds terrible BTW).

I Completely Agree Bob Cole Needs To Be Stop Those Translators On 101.9 105.3 And 98.5 Are Awful There Ripping Coverage Area For Great Stations Like 105.3 KSMG Seguin 98.5 KRXT Rockdale And 101.9 KJZX

Next time I'm in Austin, hopefully I will be able to hear the new 101.9; will be cool.

As for Bob Cole, those guys are so freakin big and successful I doubt they care about little LPFMs.

Hardly big and only moderately successful. Al their operations are rimshots or translators and AMs. They are by no means billing leaders.

It is indeed on the air on 101.9. I was able to catch a few minutes of a live show late Saturday night. Someone was playing traditional jazz music and announcing it. It's great they're doing live shows!!

However they tried to move to 89.1 on Monday, and that application to move to 89.1 was dismissed.

I guess then it will remain on 101.9? It's sad there are not enough channels in Austin to allow this great station to have one without some stupid translator with bad audio quality interfeering with it.

They tried again to move to 89.1, this time the FCC hasn't acted on their application yet.

The station went off the air, as of June 16th. Here's their statement to the FCC.

"KJZX-LP IS TEMPORARILY OFF THE AIR IN ORDER TO MOVE AND RE-ASSEMBLE THE MAIN STUDIO ORIGINATION AND TRANSMISSION EQUIPMENT TO A DIFFERENT BUILDING IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT. KJZX-LP ALSO HAD TRANSMITTER MAINTENANCE ISSUES REQUIRING THE TRANSMITTER TO BE SHIPPED BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER OVERSEAS (LONDON), WHILE USING A TEMPORARY LOANER TRANSMITTER."
