Here we go again: Frasier next to reboot?

I would watch. Some of the best comedic writing of the 90's occurred on this show IMO. Like Will & Grace, it is sometimes tough to re-create the original's magic.

In my opinion, too. I'm not a big re-boot lover, but a Frasier reboot I would definitely watch. Too bad John Mahoney is no longer with us. David Hyde-Pierce could come back as Niles, and perhaps Niles could have come out of the closet in the interim, as did the actor himself. If you recall his unseen but clearly awful wife "Maris," this could be an obvious, and hilarious extension of that plot line.

I see them taking it with Niles and Daphne having kids and Frasier become a grandfather. Roz and Frasier I believe would have hooked up.

I like the idea of a Roz and Frasier hook-up, but since it's been 14 years since the show left the air, I'd say, married, maybe had a kid, then divorced. Shared custody and a contentious but fairly loving relationship as ex-spouses would make for more interesting plot lines, than just the typical married with kids sitcom BS. Kelsey Grammar ain't exactly Jim Belushi or Kevin James. And I can't see somebody like Roz putting up with Frasier's anal retentive and mildly OCD behavior for more than a few years.

Bebe Neuwirth could guest-star as Lilith, so she and Roz could commiserate about what a prig Frasier is.

Yes....I like the possibilities.

Another idea - after Martin's death, Frasier is stuck taking care of Eddie Jr. That has amusing possiblities.

I can't believe John Mahoney was so young. He always looked old.

Mahoney was born in 1940, so 77 when he died...a year or two shy of the average American lifespan, but not that young. Now, when Frasier first went on the air in 1993, he was only 53, and playing older, so you are right about that. But there have been other examples in TV and film history - Carroll O'Connor was only 47 when he first played Archie Bunker. Beatrice Arthur was only 48 the first year she played Maude.

The most obvious example is Angela Lansbury, who played Laurence Harvey's mother in 1962's The Manchurian Candidate even though in real life, she was only 3 years older than Harvey, and was only 37 when the film was shot. But as lovely as she was as a young woman, Angela got kind of matronly looking by her mid 30s - so all they had to do was add a little "old" make-up, and it worked.

Walter Brennan played old men from a very young age...mostly by not wearing a toupee, and taking out his dentures. He had lost his teeth in a filming accident in the 1930's when the other actor faking a kick in Brennan's face, accidentally connected.

Admittedly I am a homer, but even if I wasn't, I think the show should reboot in Seattle, atleast at first. Seattle played a quirky part in Frasier's success. It offered a great location for all the offbeat characters that existed on this show, and made them work like few other locations in sitcoms. I also appreciated that they actually filmed atleast one episode in the city, and did a fantastic job of adding Seattle details (neighborhoods, local references, even copies of the Seattle Times on the set). All important, but most important was the great writing and many stars that were at the top of their game when this series aired.

I always assumed she was in her 80’s during Murder She Wrote.

Lansbury was born in 1925, so when MSW premiered in 1984, she was only 59. The show lasted 11 or 12 seasons, so she was 71 when it ended. Again, though she seems to be a healthy specimen - having made it to 92, Ms. Lansbury was matronly looking from her mid thirties, and often - usually perhaps, played characters older than her chronological age.

Just to provide some contrast - here are some young Angela pics from the 1940's and 1950's.

They meant a REAL reboot - with all new actors. And the story was Norman Lear not only restarting All in the Family , but the Jeffersons and Good Times.

But they had a clarification story yesterday that this is not what he is planning.

You can imagine the modern day Archie Bunker - an anti-immigrant Trump supporter. Perhaps they could make the Archie character a woman. I hear Roseanne Barr is looking for work.

That is actually genius. And it would likely save Rosy's career. But probably won't ever happen in today's politically charged environment.

I always assumed an All in the Family reboot would follow Meathead around.

That could be funny - they could show him as a grumpy old man, and at some point he realizes he's become Archie Bunker, just with liberal viewpoints.
Sally Struthers is still alive, so it could be her pointing it out to him. They could even have them back together, and bring in a conservative kid or grandkid (or son-in-law) to play off of him.
