Exclusive: Sinclair approaches Tribune Media about possible deal - sources

Raycom and Gray might find themselves in a Similar issue with the FCC though given that they have a proposed deal similar to Sinclair/Tribune and in certain parts of the country Raycom is a direct competitor to Sinclair.
Except neither one is in bed with Trump so this could be more of a legislative matter than anything

this merger was doom the moment the FCC and DOJ saw that this was gonna be a bad idea. basically this was gonna be the TV version of the 1999 buy out of AM FM/Chancellor Media by Clear Channel Communications/iHeartMedia, which was a bad thing for the radio industry in general.

Say Sinclair Sold Cunningham or Deer field to Trusts would the Tribune deal pass?

Perhaps if they had done that in the initial proposal. But at this point, it's too late. The merger deadline passed.

I think they might have thought because they were FOT (friend of Trump) that anything they proposed would get approved. That's not the way this government has been working.

Is the "Rumored Sinclair Network" still at play here like Stirr and also a rumored cable network Sinclair that supposedly going to get Pro-Trump audiences away from Fox News still at play or was that cancelled too because of the Tribune issue?
The way Sinclair leadership was saying it was that they supposedly needed Tribune to spark these rumored networks while getting KTLA Los Angeles in the process.

The Drama Continues on Tribune Sinclair deal and how the Trump Cabinet was at play though.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, an independent agency, says a White House official called to talk about a proposed merger between Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. and Tribune Media Co.

Ajit Pai told a Senate panel Thursday that Don McGahn, the White House counsel, called for a “status update” on the agency’s action on the deal.

He said McGahn “saw something in the news and wanted to know what our decision was,” but did not express an opinion. The call came July 16 or 17, Pai said. Pai on July 16 had expressed “serious concerns” about the merger.

Tribune scrapped the deal on Aug. 9.

Pending FCC & DOJ approval of course (Which won't happen)

Nice try though.....
If Hearst (Most likely since they own KMBC 9, the only other major ABC affiliate in the state) or Scripps (Owner of NBC affiliate KSHB 41) don't move into St. Louis, I see Mickey moving in to buy it (And, in any event, moving ABC off newsless KDNL as a result)

Pat

It's not set in stone or official yet. Sinclair already owns KEYE and could get KTBC to form a duopoly between the two.
They'd have to buy it from Fox though. Only problem with that is Fox is into BUYING stations right now (Not selling them)

Pat

With the CW on WSFL now, I can see the CW move to WBFS (and share the main channel with MyNetworkTV similar to Chicago, except WBFS is a CBS-owned station whereas WPWR is a Fox-owned station. There's also the option of MNTV on 33.2.). It would be a better move if WSVN does go independent if Fox goes to WSFL.
In Miami, I see a network switch - With WSFL getting Fox & WSVN getting the CW

Beyond that, nothing else will change

Say Sinclair Sold Cunningham or Deer field to Trusts would the Tribune deal pass?
Not now. WAY too little - WAY too late

What they needed to do was sell to MORE buyers like Fox. Did they do that?? NO !!

So Trump can WHINE all he wants (He usually does on ANYTHING he doesn't like), but NOTHING will change the fact that THE DEAL IS DEAD !!

That said, Tribune is going to have a HARD time trying to prove that IT didn't EVERYTHING IT could do to expedite the process on THEIR end though (Like selling off stations THEY KNEW would be in conflict with regulations in order to expedite the approval process). As such, they don't exactly get off scott free.....

But neither of them had an ally in The Oval Office though. As such (And in comparison), it'd have made the deal you mentioned look like CHILDS PLAY in the neighborhood playground
