EMF Shifting Tower Sites in Ventura County

KYRA 92.7 in Thousand Oaks is shifting it’s signal from 3100 Watts to 1400 Watts according to the CP signal listed here. But with the tower move a few miles to the west, the signal quality might actually improve throughout Thousand Oaks. (Note: This may already be done as the signal seems to have gotten much stronger and cleaner in Westlake Village and Thousand Oaks lately).


But of even more interest is K220FR 91.9 in Simi Valley. EMF has applied to increase from 10 watts to 100 watts & move the tower site all the way south-west to Thousand Oaks (near Malibu) pointing north) as well, covering much of the same area as KYRA (Thousand Oaks / Moorpark). Since both K220FR and KYRA air the same content (Air 1's Christian Rock), I wonder if EMF is planning a switch to their Christian Contemporary K-LOVE brand for one of the stations as KKLQ really doesn’t reach to all areas of Thousand Oaks very well and KLSB comes into Thousand Oaks about the same as KKLQ with fringe coverage in some areas.


Either that or EMF might switch one of these ‘soon-to-be-overlapping’ same format stations to their brand new 'classic hits (oldies)' format which has already rolled out to a few FM stations nationwide: K-LOVE Classics.


Time will tell. Has anyone heard anything?

I haven't seen anything about Ventura County, but EMF has a new construction permit for 91.1 K216FM Inglewood in the Baldwin Hills. https://fccdata.org/?appid=1778732&facid=92354

They are changing from 10 watts directional to the southwest to 250 watts directional to the southeast.

App says it's a 100.3 translator. Didn't know their signal was so poor to the south, or am I we missing something with this app??

Recall riding up Cal 99 to Fresno and hearing the same EMF programming at 3 or 4 FM freqs, all with good level. So, are 3 or 4 good freq. options for the same program better than one good choice?

While Malibu and Thousand Oaks may seem to be close on a map, they are separated by considerable mountains that make FM coverage of both towns improbable unless the transmitter is located on a peak within the parklands (wasting most of the useful signal over unpopulated areas).

Malibu has around 10,000 population. Thousand Oaks is more than 10 times that, and the surrounding area is in excess of 250,000 persons. So the best idea is to "follow the population" in looking at the use of the EMF frequencies in this area.

Thanks David. I live in Thousand Oaks and work in Westlake Village and know these considerable mountains and terrain very well. I also put that into consideration with my poll choice of: Strengthening Air1 signal in Malibu via a 91.9 directional since that CP is for an area just south of the 92.7 CP and may point over into the Malibu area. It's hard to tell what they are working towards but it's always interesting to see the end results.
Yeah, Media1170, I have often wondered why EMF doesnt put in applications to shift their multiple same programming stations to the same frequency giving it a more unifying coverage. We live in an age where people, upon hearing a station fading out, won't look up their chart to see what other micro transmitter freq. will extend their listening range for a few more miles.
Well, we'll see what they do. Tuned in to 92.7 again today in Thousand Oaks and the signal is crystal clear. They have definitely tweaked something if not carried out the CP already for KYRA-FM.

According to RadioLocator, the coverage pattern for 91.9 CP and 92.7 cover much of the same area even with 'considerable mountains'. So it seems quite likely one of them will, once the CP's are completed, shift formats to either K-Love or K-Love Classics (or be leased / sold to a 3rd party).
