Where's the Christmas Music?

Who will be first? Who will be best? To my taste, I really prefer iHeartRadio's take on Christmas music. But no Cincinnati outlet. I suppose I could just listen online, but my old rusty bucket minivan radio isn't up to snuff.

Thoughts? Ho ho ho!

I think airing Christmas music anytime before Thanksgiving is really pushing things. That's especially the case when the same stations totally stop playing it after December 25th.

Yet every Christmas market after market shows an overwhelmingly positive reaction to stations that do just that. Sucks for you and me but I guess we just have to put up with it.

Radio geeks' minds are just wired differently than those of average radio users, it seems. Out there in the real world, issues like repetition, playlist length, when Christmas music begins and ends just don't matter. They just roll with the flow and keep on listening.

Christmas music starting early just means it's there for those who enjoy it. Doesn't mean people are listening 24/7

But the ratings pop begins whenever the holiday playlist kicks in. Not knowing any Christmas-format devotees myself -- not that I've asked everyone I know, so maybe there are a few that I don't know I know -- I'm curious about their listening routines, especially if they're in a market in which the Christmas flip is done a couple of weeks BEFORE Thanksgiving. Are they wrapping presents that early and using the Christmas station for background music? Listening while driving to get in the mood for the season? Binging (bingeing? Neither looks right; without the "e" it looks like it means playing Bing Crosby for hours on end.) on the initial return of those old favorites, then listening only occasionally until after Thanksgiving?
