The Deal Affects WTIC in Particular.

Entercom and the University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut have reached a broadcast agreement. Under the deal, News/Talk WTIC-AM/Hartford will air home games of the university's men's basketball team's inaugural season. The partnership will run through the 2018-19 collegiate season. Additionally, Joe D'Ambrosio, co-host of WTIC's morning show "Mornings with Ryan Dunaway," will provide play-by-play commentary of the games. Coverage begins with the team's opening game against William Paterson University on November 9.

Bizarre. USJ is newsworthy only because Jim Calhoun has come out of retirement to become the basketball team's first coach. But who is going to listen to these games? USJ is a tiny school -- undergrad enrollment under 1,000 -- and it will be playing opponents that are just as small and obscure.

But the on air games will bring in listeners, attention and revenue because Jim Calhoun is the coach. He is in the Basketball HOF, and has earned 873 wins at UCONN and Northeastern. He needs only seven more wins to go ahead of Dean Smith, 30 more to beat Bobby Knight.

Without UCONN Football WTIC has been running crap football games no one in this area would be interested in. They're picking them up from Westwood One.
I would not call UConn football a quality product. I don’t think people are actively searching the games out.
