SiriusXM to Launch ''Big Ten'' and ''Big 12'' 24/7 Channels

https://news.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n36052

Note this channel starts October 22nd.

SiriusXM, the Big Ten Network (BTN), and the Big Ten Conference have announced the launch SiriusXM Big Ten Radio, a new 24/7 audio channel dedicated to Big Ten sports plus a schedule of Big Ten games. Beginning October 22, SiriusXM Big Ten Radio will feature live play-by-play broadcasts from several Big Ten men's and women's sports including football, basketball, baseball, softball and more.

The new channel's programming will feature new shows hosted by former Big Ten athletes, journalists and conference insiders, as well as simulcasts of BTN programming. The daily schedule will include Big Ten This Morning (weekdays, 7-10am ET) and the afternoon show "Big Ten Today" (weekdays, 3-6pm ET).

Hosts on the channel will include former Ohio State star LB and 2005 Lombardi Award winner A.J. Hawk; former Illinois All-America offensive lineman Brad Hopkins; former Iowa defensive lineman Anthony Herron; former Penn State basketball player Jon Crispin; former Ohio State tight end Ben Hartsock; as well as Jason Goff, Tom Luginbill, Pete Pistone and Matt Schick.

No mention of channel number. The SEC, ACC and Pac 12 channels are all on the hierarchical modulation (2.0) channels, which are only accessible on selected radios of recent vintage and -- for an added fee -- online and through mobile devices. There'll be quite a stink raised by those with legacy radios if football play-by-play of Big 10 and Big 12 teams moves off the basic lineup.

UPDATE: The full release on the SiriusXM website confirms that Big Ten Radio will be a 2.0 channel -- channel 372. The corporate hype emphasizes smart phones, smart TVs, the SXM app, Echo, Roku, PlayStation, the player on the website .. and last of all, "select" radios. Another indication that management is de-emphasizing the "radio" part of satellite radio and pushing wireless streaming and home audio/video devices as the service's future -- legacy radio owners and internet service coverage gaps in flyover country be damned.
