What do you guys think the new formats for the two rimshots will be? The south sound already has an AC, a hot AC, a country station, a classic hits and a news/talker, last time I checked. I think a CHR would work for one of them (reviving the KYNW calls and “Now 102.9” branding?). But I don’t know what 104.9 could possibly fill up. Any ideas?

102.9 goes to NWPR for news/talk.
104.9 goes to Bustos, Radio Desi or the Radio Hankook folks. I’d donate $50 if I could pick up KGRG on 104.9.
The main thing is we don’t know what price these stations are going for. I think there are still stations in the Aloha Trust and that was from, what, 2009? It’s a distinct possibility that they’re not selling for fire-sale prices.
We may be hearing the South Sound’s Smooth Jazz for awhile to come.

KSWS and KVTI already cover the area though.

KVTI is their news/classical service. KSWS is their News/Talk station. They (and nobody save for a KUOW translator in Aberdeen) don’t really cover the South Sound or the coast. If you want NPR News, you’re forced to get an iffy signal from Seattle-centric KUOW, or a worse signal from KSWS. In addition, it provides NWPR with coverage in the southern part of the metro for both formats.
Signal-wise, 102.9 (or 88.1, 99.3) are excellent additions for a public radio station geographically. Problem is, it’s not going for non-commercial prices.

DMK, I'd like that idea, the format is also being done on 103.1 in Denver and a few other stations which tend to get good ratings. Question is, why do those formats never last? If 102.7 in Austin was the highest rated translator in the country with that format, why then is it now Regional Mexican? Tim, as for your point about I-91FM, I agree. Although I didn't know many college stations at the time, about the only college station I would have even considered listening to was KVTI, and now it's a relay of NWPR. I actually considered going to Clover Park because of KVTI, but by the time I was ready to start thinking about college, they had ended broadcasting classes.
Great idea Timmy! And they could hire Pat Cashman, bring back Robin and Maynard, Crow and West, Pat O'Day and John Curley. Maybe even dig up Larry Lujack, Lan Roberts, Kevin Metheny, and Bwanna Johnny while they're at it!
And they need to find "Skippy" who was there in the late 1990s. He was a hoot.

The Hindi/Punjabi population is growing exponentially in western WA. I hear the South Asian music every night on KVRI-1600 and they get a lot of advertising for BC places.

Huh, what?????? what stations are you talking about? Iheart owns 102.9 and 104.9 (now in a trust, Ocean trust when last checked) which are the main topic of this discussion. Unless something happened to the time line while I was asleep.
The use of the word "these" would imply to all of the stations mentioned above. you may want to clarify.

When I heart obtained 96.5 and 102.5 they put these two stations in a trust. The manager of that trust recently passed away.
The post says the stations are being "transferred to her estate". Sounds like the original poster needs to re check their facts. The post makes it sound like iHeart never owned them or placed them in a trust. Confusing early morning read. Does the managers passing change who get the proceeds from the sale of 102.9 and 104.9 stations in the Ocean trust.

"Owned" was probably not the best choice of words. I just wanted to make sure that people knew about the transfer.
