I don't know if it's ever been mentioned over here on RD, but
I discovered a while back that the owners of K229BJ have Mexican ties.
I stumbled into that while on the hunt for information on a group who was behind some new noncommercial frequencies, known as Frecuencias Sociales (one notable frequency is Puerto Vallarta). I soon discovered the concessionaire had ties to José Antonio Aguilar Arellano, who owns a few stations in Texas, two of them in a 75/25 split with Elías Navarro, a Mexican citizen.
Curiously enough, I'm finding references now to another Jalisco company called Wertz Bush Radiodifusores. That's Ing.
Jaime Bush Medina. Oh look, there's Arellano, there's Wertz, and there's K229BJ. (Jaime Bush Medina's name crops up in the applications associated with that group in Jalisco, too.)
The GlobalMedia in GlobalMedia Network seems to be the Mexican GlobalMedia, which is also the business of...Elías Navarro. Last year they announced a project with stations in Texas. Unfortunately, GlobalMedia's done nothing, not only with the Texas project but also with the radio stations and TV channel they won in the recent Mexican auctions.
I suspect they've been retransmitting KJMA (notably, the FCC has them retransmitting KBNL Laredo!) while waiting on whatever GlobalMedia Network project they have cooking in Texas.
I also have to wonder if Frecuencias Sociales is a cover for one of their clients.)
Oh, and someone two years ago mentioned an outfit called Protelse at the same address. Protelse has some CPs with recent activity. I see that Héctor García is the consulting engineer. He's tied into all this, too. But I can't find Abraham Farid Karam anywhere.
