Bloomberg W221EE-92.1 NBPt

I guess Bloomberg has their new 92.1 xltr of WNBP, W221EE-92.1, up and running (first noticed it a little after 9am this morning).
While it is licensed to Newburyport, it is emitting electrons from 92.5-WXRVʼs stick in Haverhill (which also hosts WHAV-LP-97.9-Haverhill and W260AS-99.9-Lawrence and—I think—WCEC-1.490-Haverhill).
So now WNBP-1.450 has 2 translators, W221EE-92.1 and W291CC-106.1...or is 92.1 replacing 106.1 (I thought there could only be one AM to FM translator?)?

Some AM operators are using translators in the way some Non-Commercial FM stations are using them to expand their coverage well beyond the local listening area. The other day I was bored while waiting for my Mom to come out of the Plainville, Connecticut Kohl's, so I gave the AM dial a spin. I came across WNYH 740 from Huntington, Long Island. They're affiliated with the Radio Cantico Nuevo Spanish Religious Network and gave their Legal ID WNYH 740-AM Huntington, New York and the legal ID of a translator. Then they gave the Legal ID of the flagship station of Radio Cantico Nuevo WNYG 1440-AM Medford, New York followed by at least 4 or 5 additional translators. That didn't include other AM stations and translators that run that programming.

I don't think there are any Bloomberg stations out your way unless you can pick up WBBR 1130 from NYC somehow, or online. They are on WRCA 1330 and an FM translator at 106.1 in Boston, and WNBP 1450 and an FM translator on 106.1 in Newburyport (and apparently on 92.1 also).

I don't know if there are any Bloomberg stations in RI, the South Coast, and Cape Cod.Radio-locator's maps for the Boston stations, etc, don't show them pushing as far south.
They are on ch 119 on Sirius satellite radio. The Boston station is on the HD2 of WBOS 92.9 if you have an HD radio but I don't think the signal goes down to F.R.

They used to be on WXKS 1200 which might reach your way but that stopped last March. Wikipedia says _short form business reports_ do air on WBZ 1030 Boston, WTIC 1080 Hartford, and WINS 1010 NYC.

With a decent radio, it shouldn't be hard to get WBBR 1130 in Fall River. There's an 1110 in East Providence but that shouldn't cause too much trouble. And certainly at night all the big NYC AM stations come in on the south shore of New England. Even up till around 7:30 or 8am, and starting around 3 or 3:30pm, you should hear WBBR, as well as 570, 660, 710, 880, 1010, 1050, 1190 and 1560 from NYC. I've heard them fairly regularly in New Hampshire and Maine in the evening, even better than most local stations.

Getting back to Bloomberg, if they put low power, pea shooter signals clustered around Newburyport, it doesn't help those of us on the 495 belt, or South Coast who want to hear it on terrestrial radio

Norm,

You most likely worked - or maybe still are working - in the radio industry; I never did, I'm just an outsider who loves to listen. Nonetheless, we're probably both, uh, mature enough to remember when it was a real joy to listen to radio, since the broadcasters took way more seriously their responsibility to serve the widest possible number of listeners.

Was it always to our liking? Of course not, but we managed to find this or that station that came closest to our tastes. But, as we both knew would be the stock responses over on the "WBZ's Identity" thread, it ain't like that anymore, and an owner/operator - few as they are these days - can do what they want / need to keep their numbers up. The new motif is narrowcasting and overkill (ever try to keep count of the number of stations playing "today's music"?). Those of us over a certain age - I believe that cutoff age is 55 - don't matter, unless the owner/operator is not beholden to stockholders of some corporate behemoth.

So, you want to hear Bloomberg Business Radio on the 495 belt or the South Coast, well, they'll tell you it won't do well in those areas. But, hey, feel free to stream it, even in your car. Yeah, sure, but if that's the trend, then why is there so much going on to try to keep terrestrial radio relevant? I know when I listen to a streaming station, either at home or in my car, I feel somewhat isolated, since there's usually no local connection for news/weather/traffic updates.

In short, I hear you, friend, we're saying the same thing about the state of radio. Let's hope they let us keep saying it.

Unless you're in my situation, living less than 5 air-miles from the 1110 transmitter. As soon as it's the crack of sunrise...it's good-bye Bloomberg and Hello over-modulated Spanish language. My only opportunity to enjoy 1130 is during the overnight hours...when the 1110 daytimer is off the air.

And...referring back to post #10 in this thread...1330 is also impossible for me due to the presence of 1320 in Attleboro.

iNorm and I are in the greater Worcester area. When Bloomberg was on 1200 we could at least listen during the daylight hours.
And I definitely would still like to listen over the air but Bloomberg made a business decision to concentrate on the Boston financial district and inside the 128 population center.
