104.9 Bob FM Christmas

104.9 Bob FM in Myrtle Beach is Christmas they went sometime last week. This has got to be the first time they have gone full blown Christmas. Usually Easy 105.9 will go but not this soon as they are still in regular format even with Bob FM playing Christmas.

Could 104.9 be going AC after Christmas? Could we see 104.9 lite fm?

Noticed tonight that Carolina County 93.9 WMIR went Christmas. And calling themselves "Myrtle Beach's Official Christmas Station" So 104.9 and 93.9 are Christmas. Will 105.9 join the party? I remember the years when only Star 92.1 went.

Yes, 105.9 has joined the party. Based on my experience with the station last year, it's not as good as the iHeart stations. Bob is an iHeart station. Maybe someone realized Myrtle Beach didn't have a Christmas station as good as the iHeart stations.

I agree 105.9 seems to have a small Christmas playlist.

Now Myrtle Beach has 3 Christmas Stations
Small? That's not the problem. The songs just aren't as good.

Now iHeart Christmas Classics seems to have a small playlist. My first day listening, although only a few songs weren't good, the good ones just kept repeating. It seemed like once I heard "Merry Xmas (War is over)" for the second time (I'd rather not hear that one at all), almost every song was one I had just heard hours earlier.

Well you can't have it both ways with Christmas music - there are only so many songs. I've listened to 105.9 and give them credit for going a bit deeper - they even have a daily feature playing a new this year song. In fact, they play the exact same 125 songs as 104.9 but I'm thankful they go beyond them with some songs I've not heard before but now like.

104.9 is the same songs over and over and over and over. I guess that's the difference between corporate cookie cutter programming and real local programming.

I haven't listened long enough to either station to know how they compare. Both are playing some good songs and both are playing junk. Both stations are playing different songs than I've heard on iHeart Christmas Classics or America's Best Music (the latter is still only playing some Christmas songs).

I haven't actually verified this but it has been my experience with AC stations, and certainly iHeart's Greensboro NC station, that once commercials start, they will go on for a long, long time. WEZV at least has frequent but short commercial breaks.

One problem with comparing the stations is sometimes neither station is playing something worth hearing in my opinion and if I just turn off the sound I end up forgetting to listen to anything. Still, each station has played some good recordings I haven't heard or haven't heard lately.

I can't believe I have to complain about Ray Conniff but the man turned a beautiful song like "Carol of the Bells" (the Christian version) into something more fit for Halloween. So much of the recording is good but he was not scoring a horror movie. Of course, what Trans-Siberian Orchestra did to it is far worse and worthy of Freddy Krueger.

And both stations played it this afternoon.

I don't suppose The Tide is playing Christmas music.

The reason I ask is I was in an area where I used to be able to hear it in a few locations. It was Easy 94.5 at that time, simulcasting 105.9.

Another easy listening station (actually, beautiful music, and not really "easy" when it bordered on classical) also reached the same area but could be picked up in more locations. Since that station is talk, I sort of doubt it's playing Christmas music.

No, 94.5 The Tide is playing regular format. Wouldn't be smart for 2 stations under the same owner playing Christmas music. Would been smart for Easy 105.9 to go Christmas the same day 104.9 Bob went to compete.

Regarding 104.9 does anyone think they might not come back as Bob FM after Christmas? I think we could see a Breeze coming. 104.9 The Breeze anyone?

I didn't think about trying the web site when I first asked the question, but when I did it was the same garbage Easy plays the rest of the year. I don't know what I was hearing. Even if it was the talk station that used to play beautiful music in Greenville SC, I was going down the east side of a hill.

It would be nice if it could be really soft. However, Easy 105.9 is no different from the other soft ACs that have recently signed on though it is actually softer than WDUV and WFEZ.

Last year around this time is when 94.1 The Sound launched out in Seattle. Ratings for the station have looked good since the flip from country to Soft AC. The flip took place due to CBS Radio selling to Entercom and Entercom didn't want to have 2 country stations in the same market.

Bob is not going to change to soft AC if the format sounds like WEZV. What would be the point? Now if stations were having success with the music on the Chicago station, that might be different. Some of the people who were complaining about WEZV on Facebook switched to KJUL Las Vegas. That doesn't sound all that different to me, but apparently it does to them. Now WMNI Columbus is an example of a much better station (almost the same as what WEZV was doing before), though I can't understand what "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips is doing there.

Besides, they keep interrupting the Christmas music to play a few seconds of the garbage they play the rest of the year to illustrate what their "normal" format is. "Sussudio" was the number 3 song and "Just What I needed" was number one. Whatever that means.

And 1969 the Year in Rock. If they keep talking about Bab, then Bob is coming back.

WEZV sounds better this year or maybe I've just accepted there will be songs that make me have to change stations. America's Best Music, now that it's all Christmas, doesn't even sound as good as these two stations. It should sound better given what it plays year-round. But I had to turn off the sound a lot yesterday. I didn't try going back to one of these two stations but I should have. And I couldn't listen and be on Facebook. Normally I can use my TiVo for America's Best Music but not if it's in another room and I have to keep turning it off.

I've noticed the WEZV text display is not Working correctly. Been saying the word dynamic for some on the display. But the display for sister 94.5 The Tide is fine.

What is the text display?

By the way, WEZV is not technically playing all Christmas music. At some point, they started playing smooth jazz when Diane Stokes was talking. They still do, and I don't think it's holiday music.

It was just saying the word "dynamic" for some reason for a few days. Then tonight it was showing the sister station text on the 105.9 radio display saying "94.5 The Tide" with a song title from 94.5, but not currently what was currently being playing on The Tide, werid if you ask me.

Which web site was this, because I've found several places to listen. I couldn't get tunein to work at first but unlike securesystems, it didn't give me fake warnings.
