Radio Legend Les Davis Is Retiring....

The post at the dentist's board says he did overnights at WVNJ, but I'm pretty sure it was 7PM to midnight. He called it WVN-Jazz.

i'm with you, kid - and yes i do remember the "WVN-Jazz" days..... :)

I'll never forget the time I called him at WEVD (FM) one night when he did his jazz show there. One song was really great and I wanted to ask what the title was (turned out to be 'Jumpin' At The Woodside', by Lionel Hampton and Stan Getz -- a great 11:00 duel).
He didn't answer the phone 'WEVD!' or 'Good morning, WEVD ...'
Instead, I hear the phone being picked up, and a long pause, before hearing just

'.....Lesss Davisssss.'

What a legend.

I believe he worked for a while at CD-101.9 (Smooth Jazz). I don't think he ever worked at WBGO which has been a jazz station for almost 40 years.
