107.3 becomes 1400's translator

Keyword here "Classic R&B". Not oldies. Different core audience... very different.

Other stations don’t dictate WECK. We steer WECK. THE formats could not be more different. One
plays Bill Haley, the other plays Mary J Blige.

So how much "live, original, local audio content" will this new station have?

That's an interesting way to begin a press release or describe a company.

It depends on what you consider live, original, local content. Had this been an iHeart station, it's likely that the content would be originating in another city. That's how iHeart did a lot of the 24/7 Christmas stations around the country. TTBOMK Entercom doesn't have a syndication platform like "premium choice" or some centralized format library to draw on. So it'll likely originate from a local hard drive with local music scheduling. Does that mean live DJs? Probably not, at least for the first few months. Are they playing original music that was recorded in local Buffalo studios by local Buffalo musicians? I highly doubt it.

It is about time Entercom did something with this translator that has just been on the air for years with little to no content. It was originally 107.7 translator from Williamsville with very little power and coverage.
Maybe 1400am will someday soon broadcast from a studio again and not a closet like it does currently! But I have my doubts. Isn’t there already an AM station with translator doing R&B in Buffalo?

Yep. It's Power 96.5, which relays WUFO(Mix 1080)and gives the daytime-only signal round the clock operation...in much the same way that a network of translators in Genesee, Livingston and Wyoming counties gives WCJW/1140(CJ Country)full-time service.

Now I'll admit that I've been gone from Entercom and Buffalo for umpteen years now so I have no idea what the studio facilities are now but AM1400 used to be in its own rack in one of the then Auxiliary Production studios after the stations all moved to 500 Corporate Parkway back in 2000. Now when it was located at 695 Delaware Avenue it truly was in a closet-or at least a former closet that had at one point been converted to an announce booth before being returned to closet status upon the arrival of more stations to that cramped building in the days under the ownership of Keymarket.

When I was a student at Buffalo State studying broadcasting, I spend a semester doing an internship in that building. And, yeah, it was pretty cramped in there(at the time(the early 90s), I think only Kiss and WWKB were there.

Looks like they're planning to move it to high atop the new Buffalo General Hospital. That should give it nice coverage for its target audience. It should do a nice job covering the city and first-ring 'burbs. It might even nick WBLK's numbers - which is likely the target here.https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=W297AB&service=FX&s=C
Things are heating up: Entercom using this translator to counter programming WBLK ... Townsquare counter-punching by making changes on 96.1 that may impact Star. It almost brings back memories of the era of radio wars... almost. BTW, that translator move to the top of Buffalo General comes with more than a few precautionary measures. Years ago 107.7 had one of its translators atop the hospital and great care had to be taken to prevent problems with the hospital's very sensitive instruments. The 107.3 signal isn't the most powerful, but it covers areas that are key to a station that targets urban listeners.
