So I bought a new car and get SiriusXM free for 4 months. It's better than I thought it would be.
Listening to some channels, though, I was surprised about the "jocks" they use. For example, the guy on in the morning (East Coast) on Studio 54, Larry Flick, does NOT sound like a radio DJ. He was pretty awful. At least that's what I thought when I first started listening. But the more I listened, the more I liked him. He really knows his stuff about the era. (After looking him up on line, I now know why!) I realized I was wrong and should not have judged him based on terrestrial radio standards. His pipes might not sound like a "DJ," but his knowledge makes the channel more interesting.
But there is one jock that really bugs me. Spyder Harrison on SiriusXM Hits 1. He has the opposite of Larry Flick - MAJOR pipes. Too much. I'm sure he sounded great on the pop stations of yesterday, Z100 NY, Y100 Miami, etc., in the 80s and 90s. But he sounds kind of "old" and "dated" for a pop station today. Or, am I judging him like I judged Larry Flick -- by terrestrial radio standards?
Thoughts please?
