Congratulations Capital Public Radio

As of this last monthly, KXJZ captures the crown for top place for News in Sacramento Radio...6+. My educated guess tells me that they’ve had that locked up 25-54 for a while.

Well deserved!

I guess you're saying KXJZ beat KFBK-AM-FM. KXJZ wasn't #1 overall. That was Christmas music/AC KYMX. Usually the top station by far, and tops 25-54, is Classic Rock KSEG, except during the holidays.

If you're only talking about news/talk stations, yes, KXJZ did finish at #3 overall while KFBK-AM-FM was #4. But Christmas music changes everything. Talk stations take a hit when the local AC station is playing Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby in regular rotation. NPR stations do too, but not as much.

It will be interesting to see if KFBK-AM-FM is back ahead of KXJZ in the January ratings. The Trump Effect and November elections gave a boost to NPR stations. Let's check back in February to see where KXJZ is, and whether the December and Holiday ratings for news/talk stations were skewed by Christmas music.

KXJZ is not number 1 overall, that why I stated "top place for news". As far as 25-54 goes, I'm sure Cap Radio will continue to beat KFBK. KFBK has a good news department and strong anchors, but it's no KCBS especially with talk programming.

Agree. KFBK, while still VERY good, but a bit of a "shell of it's former self". Still VERY good, but not great IMHO. KFBK has always been a spring board for many... nothing that we haven't talked about before on this board.

JammerDave - Is BK automated overnight these days or still manual? <- I assume automated but wanted to ask. :)
