It's pretty simple: the combined strengths of the 3 107.1 FMs and the big 97.5 signal seem to have more potential than running them separately.
97.5 was very dominant in the IE until they dropped the José format; they saw that and put it back on.But the IE is a low revenue market compared to its population size, and while it was getting some LA listening, it was not competitive at the sales level.
107.1 was doing moderately well with its personality "mostly talk all day" approach. But it was limited by signal.
Combined, they have nearly full coverage of all the EI and LA market, with pieces of SD and Ventura/Oxnard as a bonus. They believe they have a good lineup of El Genio Lucas ("Lucas the Genie") in the morning, Eddie "Piolín" Sotelo in middays, Erazno y la Chocolata in PM Drive, Ermida y La Flaca in early evenings and Mayra Berence with a show about the paranormal in late evenings.
With this line-up they have a competitive product for the two markets and a different enough product to argue for inclusion on ad buys.
