WKXI dumps Tom Joyner for Steve Harvey

After over a quarter century airing the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Kixie 107 made the switch to Steve Harvey. Joyner is retiring later this year, but I thought Kixie would stay until the end. Anyhow, I wish that local talent would be used to program a locally-based morning show, but appears to be going the way of the do-do bird.

Those days are long gone, my friend. As I've said elsewhere, the old days are gone and they aren't coming back. Fact is, morning shows are expensive and most operations can't justify the cost. Whether or not local shows are better than syndicated is debatable and depends on who you ask. My experience has been that most listeners really don't care, they just want to be entertained.

I recently heard a rerun of Tom Joiner on WMPR 90.1 complete with commercials with out saying "Underwriter" , unusual considering WMPR is supposed to be non commercial.
