Did NBC air the soap opera Another World instead of a pregame show before game 6 of the 68 series, like they did later on in the 80s with Cosby?
If memory serves, NBC had a pre-game in the East. Another World would have been pre-empted in the West by the game itself.
I can't tell you a thing about 1968, but I know that when a soap failed to air on CBS when I was working at an affiliate because of breaking news coverage, the West Coast feed would substitute an old episode of The Price is Right.
It's possible that Another World aired instead of a pregame, but i just don't see NBC pulling that kind of move. Now if in advance, if they knew it was raining, then maybe they'd air AW, until play did start.
That would be correct.
I do have another question about the 1974 NLCS game 4 was on October 9th. According to the TV guide, WYFF was scheduled to air a rerun of The Addams Family at 3:30, but that's when the Pirates-Dodgers game started. I'm guessing The Addams Family was in the TV listings just in case there wasn't a game that day? Must have been confusing because the listings say one thing, but the baseball game aired instead? Why not just put to be announced?

As I go through listings of newspapers from Google News Archive, game 6 of the 1968 World Series started at 1:30 PM ET. Local programming preceded it, so it would have aired straight through the rest of NBC's daytime programming up to 4 PM ET (Let's Make a Deal, Days of Our Lives, The Doctors, Another World, You Don't Say!). In the west, it's not clear what aired after the game as it would have ended at 1 PM, where The Doctors, Another World, You Don't Say! and The Match Game would normally air at that point. Perhaps the morning shows bumped for the game were aired on delay.
You Don't Say! was the only afternoon game in the east that didn't get aired. The Match Game aired, provided the game didn't go into extra innings (which it did not). As I peruse the Spokane WA newspaper on Google Archives, the game started at 10:30 AM PT out west. The bumped shows were all delayed till after the game ended, with Hollywood Squares at 1:30, Jeopardy! at 2 PM and Eye Guess at 2:30. The Match Game was pre-empted.
Of note, there was a pre-game at 12:30 in the east on game 6, pre-empting Eye Guess. So pre-first pitch stuff would have started at 1 PM with first pitch at 1:30.
I wish I had a time machine to take me back to that date to see. As I recall, I was home from school for the day which would have made the end of the game at 3:56 PM ET. They presumably wrapped things up so The Match Game could start on time. Only a presumption. Where's a TARDIS when you need one?The box score at baseball-reference.com shows that Game 6 took 2 hours, 26 minutes to play, so did the network get out of the telecast ASAP so the stations' top-of-the-hour programming could start on time, or was there a postgame show and a "joined in progress" or delayed start for that programming?
I know that during the 72 series, NBC aired Return to Peyton Place before game 5.
