Laramie, Wyoming DX logs

I thought I might start posting some logs here. I read this board almost every day and dx almost every day, but haven't posted much. I figured why not create one thread and post everything in here as time goes

Tonights logging is interesting.

825pm mountain Wed Feb 13 (0325UTC Thu Feb 14).
1kw 4055khz, Radio Verdad in Chiquimula, Guatemala

SINPO 44344. Pretty strong signal for what and where it is, some fading and a bit of noise but overall pretty darn listenable!

I have 3 months worth of audio and logs since I moved here in November. I won't post everything but over time, I will pick otu some good ones to share here. I have audio fed duirectly out of my radio audio outputs to the line in of a digital recorder and everything I log gets an audio recording.

I use a Icom IC746Pro radio (no, I'm nto a ham) and a 25 foot long by 10 foot tall volleyball net shaped magnetic loop antenna connected to a Wellbrook ALA100LN amp/control head and antenna interface.

Gotta get me a couple more Wellbrook items. I have the loop and a few other items, but Andrew has phased out some neat, smaller accessories since then.

I've had a few Wellbrook items over the years and this big, self made loop has done really well for me

And tonight (Sat March 3, 2019) at 1042pm mountain time, I had this... and yes, it did actually produce some HD audio. Distance between me and KNX is 850 miles.

That's fantastic.

Coincidentally, I was in the car last night and tuned by 780 and the HD light was flashing. It didn't lock on and no RDS was shown, but is WBBM using HD?

+1. KNX has an awesome signal in the western third of the country. Nicely done!

I can often hear KNX at SOME level from around sunset every night to after sunrise every morning, give or take for a bit of KFTI or KATQ sometimes. Sometimes I can hear KNX from as early as about an hour before Laramie sunset to well over an hour after Laramie sunrise

When i lived in rural central Alaska, KNX and KFBK would be listenable every night

Yes they are, it flashes here but wont lock

KMOX recently turned their HD back on.. like in the last week or two.

KSL 1160 HD was off Saturday night 3/2 but back on the morning of 3/3

Yet even at 50 kw, the signal is noisy as close in as Redlands to the east and Lancaster to the NE. Only along the coast does it get well even into northern San Diego County and up to Ventura.

It does have a nice skywave, though, now that the Mexican station that gave it trouble almost everywhere has departed the AM band.

At my brother-in-law's place in the high desert near Victorville, the signal is "ragged" to put it mildly. Occasional cancellation fading at night. Things improve markedly going south on the 15 through Cajon Pass.

On the other side of the coin, IME, the skywave signal generally is brilliant until about midway between the Rockies and the Mississippi River. Then it drops off dramatically and gets swallowed up rapidly east of there.

Now tell everyone how many GB of audio you have just since you moved to Wyoming. ;)

With KCKK Littleton, CO off the air and the transmitter site unreachable.. KMSD Milbnak, SD about 500 miles away was heard this morning just before Milbank sunrise.. I dont think theyre on 14 watts, but they could have pre sunrise authority of up to 500W

Heard pirate station "Misfit Radio" on 6295khz tonight at 0230UTC. I've seen several SSTV decodes of this broadcast and I had the best signal by far, it would seem. Here the image

Hearing Radio Rebelde from Cuba on 1180khz tonight (Sat Mar 6, 10pm mountain) but with 31 Rebelde transmitters alone on 1180, I have no idea which one i'm hearing.. and I'm not hearing an echo, so im only hearing one transmitter. Was a match to the Radio Rebelde webstream. Over under sports KZOT Omaha.
