Radio Revenue 1944 vs Today

In the January 7, 1945 issue of Broadcasting Magazine, the Chairman of the FCC reported that WLW in Cincinnati had billed $4,000,000 in 1944. That is nearly $58,000,000 in 2019 dollars.

Today, WLW bills around $14 million annually.

The next year, the FCC issued it's "blue book" outlining the public responsibilities of broadcast licensees. I suspect that there's a connection between those things.

I think the hearing that presented the WLW data was indeed related.

For those not familiar, the FCC Blue Book is available at https://www.americanradiohistory.com/Archive-FCC/FCC-Blue-Book-1946.pdf

And articles about the Blue Book abound. Here are a few links to them: https://www.americanradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Business/Magazines/Archive-BC-IDX/search.cgi?zoom_query=fcc+blue+book&zoom_page=1&zoom_per_page=100&zoom_cat%5B%5D=1&zoom_and=1&zoom_xml=0&zoom_sort=1http://
