Rumor has it that Dean and “Skip” have been terminated, again just a rumor ! Can anybody (sans popcorn101) confirm ? I always thought in the back of my mind Verne and Gary would wait until Dean/“Skip” built up the station a bit then send them packing, total bush league move if true.

Well, Dean's FB page now says "former KKDJ".

Someday, we'll all look back and remember Vern's "legendary (K259CF South Fresno, eh, um, KKDJ" as THE textbook example of how pathetic Fresno radio was circa 2019.

Time to hit reset.

Why would you ask me to comment I think the music and the station is fantastic, when I called this morning the guy I talked to said Dean had moved on, so be it I like the music I never thought that morning guy was any different from anyone else I heard on there. I'm loving the music not some DJ

Two things....
1- Verne seems to be in no hurry to remove Dean from the KKDJ website,as of 3/16 @ 6:47pm he is still listed as the morning host.

2-God bless this Will Smith guy, probably some dude that graduated from Fresno State that signed up to sell ad tim3 or be in the promotion department but found himself in the middle of one of Vernes fiascos.Get all the experience you can Mr.Smith then go tell Verne to pound sand.

What was with the New Age squirrel chirp at 11:57 that segued into Zepplin's Commincation Breakdown?

Anyone who needs an Indy rock fix: http://www.885fm.org. While a college radio station, there's some great talent there from long lost LA stations taken over by EMF and they've actually started to show in the latest book. Shows that something other than mainstream radio can find an audience, and I would suspect, a loyal one at that. But, Dean knew that.

Quick question why would you compare a commercial FM with a College station, Without a doubt KKDJ has the best mix of music it has not changed, I really don't care about what DJ is on I listen for the music . Today I listened to KCSM after you're suggestion some of the music is ok but KKDJ is much better. When I phoned the station today they said Dean was awol sometimes misses 3-4 days a week, why would the station put up with that?

I gave up listening some time ago but I thot I'd give the new guy a chance. Until he tried to feed me some national chamber of commerce crap about how I don't really pay taxes. WTF?
What's really wrong with 99.7? You only have to look at the differences in the CEOs and their management styles. Not to mention their basic characters.

I've never seen such a little station get so much attention....and i dont think its because KKDJ is that good. I certainly think at least one person commenting here actually works at KKDJ.

Has anyone seen their job postings on allaccess.com? Seems to be overstating things a bit, with a bit of a delusions of reality

I meant to say compare CEOs of *the original KKDJ/105.9 -compared to the 99.7 imposter*. Night and day difference. Like comparing Obama with the orange monkeyman. Character.

Someradioguy, I didn't mean to step on your post just after you posted. Your observations are right on.

I didn't say anything about a comparison. I simply made a reference to what is making news in LA for their AAA format, not unlike a Philadelphia station that's making news - http://www.xpn.org. It's more appropriate to consider within context of non-com vs com. The college is just the license holder. And, if you don't take a non-com seriously, look at what my ex-boss left behind -- https://www.forbes.com/companies/educational-media-foundation/#2c66d94a7378.

What's important is that these stations, that may or may not be associated with a college, understand that the demographics of AAA can generate the dollars needed to keep this format alive. KCSN acts like a commercial station, sounds better than many commercial stations, and is growing because of their funding base (read: older demos who drive expensive cars and have the bucks to make a donation). There's no doubt that under Dean, there was an attempt to capture this market in a less than ideal market, with no signal, questionable management, and no budget.

You're saying the music hasn't changed? Wrong. It's quickly returning to it's so called Classic Rock burnouts. Who cares? Only this forum and only because it's an easy target because it's so bad.

In regards to ExKynoJox last post - I won't duplicate it here, but.... I've listened to more than the average Joe's diet of Bad radio- intentionally mind you. Why? Because it had HEART. I remember Gary Gilbert sounding so bad he was canned from KYNO and went back to square one in Tulare. Johnny Hyde- likewise, booted off of KYNO. Both had enuf real authentic heart to come back to have spectacular careers. Happy Harold! If there was ever anybody that DID NOT have the magic pipes of say.. a Chris Edwards. Nooo Harold did NOT sound 'happy' lol. And Dick Delgato, 'Richard the Lion'. God luv 'im! Honestly, put him on 99.7 and I guarantee I'd tune in more than I do now. I just hate PHONIES. To hear someone who is so obviously trying to sound "UP" .... as is the case on 99.7, well :(( NOPE Not buy-in' it. And the same old worn out tunes **every day** NO No. No!!!
Come back IF you can come up with something unique and ORIGINAL. Popcorn- ok you think its the greatest music around- enjoy. I guess I'd even have to say your old Clovis 94.7 weekend pirate sounded better than 99.7.

Incredibly astute observations. Delgado would be perfect for Saturday evenings anywhere! Seems like I heard him on the air just a few years ago somewhere. Much better than whatever the hell it is that's on weekends now on 99.7. Unfathomable that anyone in their right mind could listen to, much less enjoy or embrace, whatever that actually is. The difference between "phony" and "real" (or honest) personality radio is what radio executive's everywhere have forgotten. Slickly produced, bullshit, phony shticks and information you can get on your phone isn't capturing my attention. I'm confused over the KCSM comments by another poster. The also mentioned KCSN however, IS an exciting online option for listening. Its tight and they get get out the way of the music while providing pertinent music information. I still thought at times KKDJ was more for my palette than even them until the well worn classic crap would start. But so turns not just KKDJ but FM in Central California... And aside from a few pockets around the country, nationally. The differences between presenters being "phony" or "real," having "heart" and uniqueness or "being gutless" and posers seems to greatly parallel the music formats most execs go with. The Catcher And The Rye should be mandatory reading before acquiring a license to broadcast from the FCC. "Phony" has been out for a long, long time.

I overlooked something in my last rant. Before popcorn jumps in to inform us all I will save him the trouble. "Richard the Lion" IS or MIGHT BE on one of the Whites' TWO LPFMs in Hanford. I heard him on 1680 AM a couple weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon, and heard him say that besides hearing him on Sunday afternoons from 3 til 5 on 1680 AM he can also be heard in simulcast on either 92.5 or 104.5 FM in Hanford. I don't remember which one- one or the other of the two LPFMs licensed to Hanford that are operated by Mr. White.

Oh oh oh. I just misappropriated a bunch of time to carefully reread some posts. I feel like an idiot. Yeah it is obvious. You have to be kidding me with Popcorns posts. OMG. Clear as 50000 watts. I also looked at the allacess website. Clearly the same person posting the jobs at KKDJ. Unreal. I would reiterate my statement on the Catcher And The Rye and aim it directly at him but the way he spells it's doubtful he can read. Oh dear. Wow. That is it with this bs for me. What an idiot (although I'm not much better for not seeing through the scam.) No way is this any semblance of the once legendary KKDJ or will it ever be if that's the owner. You should be ashamed! Jerk. And an identity thief as well!??? There should be a disclaimer on this site. I'm out

OK I have been reading all of this stuff, just got home and saw some more here is what I found out. Yesterday I called KKDJ spoke to someone who identified himself as Chris, here is what he told me, understand I called to ask questions I forgot to ask what he did there but he seemed to know what he was talking about, hopefully this will clarify some of the ridiculous things I am reading on here.
I asked if Dean Opperman was still there he told me that the station had a meeting with staff yesterday which included Dean Opperman and another on air guy named Jeff. This meeting as I was told was to try and work things out.
This fellow told me that Management was upset over several things, according to what I was told Dean has been AWOL or MIA on a regular basis, the station can't seem to find him for days on end. He has continually not shown up for work among other things which I will not put on here as I don't want to say something that might hurt someone or their reputation.
I will say that having been in Broadcasting for years I have seen many come and go and from what I was told Dean has been given many chances. It was brought to my attention that the owners had done a lot for Dean Financially and even secured a place for him to live rent and utilities free, gave him a station vehicle and that he was paid a sign on bonus.
When I asked about the music and format because that is what I read here from others I was told that ownership gave Dean and his friend Jeff full control of the music and format. The inside scoop as he told me was the format was to be like Kpig or Kfat and that management had secured the music lists and music from those stations and that Jeff (Deans Friend) was inputting all the music plus music from the Kcsn format in Southern Ca. He told me that Jeff was doing all of that and that Jeff did all of the music programming, even though the format to be played was a Kpig or Kfat type format with some songs that Jeff put in that play on KCSN, They were very upset as they had given both of them complete music control that the format was never followed and that they as Management felt a consultant would help.
He told me that the owners hired a consultant to help them make sure they were on track and doing what would work in Fresno. He stated that the owners are pro Dean and Pro Jeff and really respect their massive talent and what it could bring to the station.
I was told the management was very disappointed in the actual music and how it was formatted, then they will decide if Dean stays or goes, I was told Jeff on the other hand was never late and never a no show so there was no question that he would be staying on.
He mentioned to me that they are running employment ads for Disc Jockeys that could fulfill their other time slots, he did tell me that ownership had a meeting with a former KKDJ on air person Billie Wright who was considering moving back to Fresno and said that she had been offered a job.
I was told that they are buying a lot of new equipment and rebuilding their studios on Palm and Herndon as well as building a totally new studio at their downtown facilities in the Pacific Southwest building. He told me that no decision was made on Dean's future at KKDJ yesterday, they are still in talks waiting for the consultants recommendations and waiting to finish their new studios as well, before they make that decision
After what I heard in my phone call yesterday I have a different outlook, I think these owners and managers have bent over backwards to keep Dean on the air even though just from my listening experience he was not there very much. As a listener who enjoys the music I am hoping that they work with him and try to keep him.

Why do I find some of whats said here to be fishy? IE: not the truth and this popcorn person has something to do with KKDJ?

Because let me tell you, as a broadcaster.. I would never tell some random person who called up all this stuff that popcorn apparently knows.

And somehow I doubt KKDJ has all the money that popcorns post would imply they have.
