FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19: 97.3

Continuing with the traditional (pre-Docket 80-90) Class B/C Frequencies:
What do you or did you get on 97.3

East Tennessee: Knoxville/Sevierville-Mostly over-run from local WJXB, but possible logging of W247CH, Kingsport, TN with CCM format while driving through the mountains. One-time reception of WAEV, Savannah GA in a rare tropo event that brought a few Savannah area stations in.

Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio area: Often a toss-up between WMEE, Fort Wayne and WKWK, Wheeling, WV, but there was a 97.3 in nearby Lebanon, OH for awhile. It was moved to Fort Thomas KY and still can make it in weakly to the south side of Dayton. Currently, WSWO-LP, Huber Heights, Ohio is on the frequency. WMEE was a semi-local in the part of Ohio I grew up in (formerly on 1380), but I grabbed WKWK once.

Lafayette, IN was a tossup between WMEE and WRUL, Carmi, IL. Currently there is an LPFM on 97.3 in West Lafayette.

DX Recording of the Week: WMEE flips from Beautiful Music WMEF to top 40 "Magic 97" in July 1979, moving the format from 1380 AM. Just 97 cents to see the movie "FM" at the drive-in! http://46124.info/FM/Indiana/IN Fort Wayne 97.9 1979 WMEF AM to FM move.mp3

Yakima WA

Great channel here. KIRO Tacoma (News/Talk) and KKRS Davenport (Religious) often pop in on tropo scatter, but there's no local here. And as it's so open, meteor scatter and Eskip are often heard. Logs below:
KLCE Blackfoot ID (Adult Contemporary - METEOR SCATTER)
XHECS Chihuahua CHI (Imagen News/Talk, 1,469 miles away)
KKJQ Garden City KS (Country)
KBLR Blair NE (Country - now KOBM Oldies)
KLZK New Deal TX (Adult Contemporary - now KTTU Sports)
KMXC Sioux Falls SD (Hot AC)
KKSS Santa Fe NM (Urban Contemporary)
KAML Gillette WY (Hot AC)
KRVY Starbuck MN (Adult Contemporary)
KDNW Duluth MN (Christian Contemporary)
KSON-FM San Diego CA (Country - now on 103.7, KWFN Sports replaced it - also METEOR SCATTER)
KLLC San Francisco CA (Hot AC - METEOR SCATTER)
KNCQ Redding CA (Country - METEOR SCATTER)
KRGY Aurora NE (Classic Rock)
KRJK Lamont CA (Country)
XHSOS Agua Prieta SON (Regional Mexican)

Wanted: KBCO Boulder/Denver eludes me greatly. They still haven't been heard even when other Denver's show up. Doesn't help that usually Garden City is mixed in on 97.3.

Far northwest Chicago suburbs....

97.3 is WRNW from Milwaukee. (ex-WISN-FM and a few others) One of the tougher Milwaukee FM signals due to being squeezed at my location by WDRV (Chicago) on 97.1 and WZOK (Rockford, IL) on 97.5. Format is sports talk, but the WISN connection lives on with a simulcast of WISN on the HD-2 channel.

In the valley of the Jolly Green Giant (Le Sueur, MN)

a faint/very faint (depending on where in town) K247CU New Ulm (FM translator of KNUJ AM 860am)

Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs):

Usually splatter from local 97.5 the Fanatic(WPEN-FM). Sometimes in tropo, WENJ from
Vineland(ESPN) or 97.3 the River(WRVV) from Harrisburg would appear.

Newark area of New Jersey

IBOC from WQHT, HOT 97.1 NYC

Tropo brings in WENJ 97.3 from Millville, NJ. I may have received WJFD from New Bedford, MA at one point, in the previous Summers

Baldwin Co., Alabama —

This is first-adjacent to a local but when tropo kicks up, I have a few signals:

WGEX Bainbridge, GA is the most common
WFMM Sumrall, MS shows up occasionally, too

And once, I got WFMN from Flora, MS, too. What makes this one a bit of an oddity is both WFMN and WFMM are Supertalk Mississippi stations with identical programming. The only way I knew I had Flora (Jackson) and not Sumrall (Hattiesburg) was through RDS!

WAEV Savannah usually comes in here in Charleston (97.3 Kiss FM, top 40). On days with no tropo it struggles to get in, any tropo it blasts in. It has a great signal through SE GA and southern SC.

Wilmington, NC comes in during tropo (urban format).
