The Onion celebrates its sale by Univision...

That was the weakest joke of all of the others on that page. I enjoyed the Panda giving birth to a Rhino myself.
 
Maybe so because I don’t get it, is the funny part supposed to be that they’re mentioning Telemundo when they’re supposed to speak of Univision?

That's all I can figure. I don't think most people outside the industry had any idea that Univision had owned The Onion since 2016 -- including myself! I don't recall any Onion articles portraying Univision in as obsequious a manner as this piece on Telemundo. Actually, I don't recall any Onion articles on Univision at all, not that I'm a daily visitor to the website. If Telemundo had a reputation for garbage TV or its top executive was some sort of unsavory character -- and if the general public were aware of all that -- then the article would be funny in the typical sarcastic Onion way. But this article just falls flat and probably has 99 percent of the site's visitors going "Huh?"
