Braves baseball on Rock 100.5

People aren't listening to a signal, they're listening to contemporary Christian music.

I agree when the second biggest operator of radio stations gets beat by Salem, it is the programming. Y106.7 was a very viable Country station. That was Citadels mistake. Cumulus was / is not smart enough to do something with 106.7. After Lew left they should have done something like put Rock 100.5 programming on 106.7 I guess it would be Rock 106.7? They could have gone toe to toe with 97.1 which would have been interesting. I do like 100.5's station ID which includes "the redhead stepchild of Cumulus."

CBS tried all news in Washington DC, invested millions trying to compete against WTOP, and they lost. Not long after that, management at CBS radio changed, and the company was no longer interested in radio, ultimately selling the division to Entercom. I don't see the same commitment to news at Entercom that may have existed at CBS ten years ago.

They might have picked the wrong city. Why go toe toe with someone who has decades head start. They should have bought channel 46 or used 69 as an O & O built up the local news operation. but that is not going to happen.

You're underestimating the audience for Christian music in Atlanta. It has nothing to do with Salem. I think EMF will be a strong challenger to the Fish.

Y106 was always a very weak stepchild to Kicks in the country format.

WYAY was a flanker, designed to protect Kicks. Once 94.9 went Country, WYAY served no purpose.

I'd be surprised if The Fish is dramatically affected.

"Chicago's K-LOVE" sputtered after EMF shut down WLUP a year ago.

Last three books WCKL-FM: 1.1-1.3-1.3

Last three books WLUP-FM: 2.7-2.9-3.2

WABE's continued dominance of WRAS is an analogue.

Does Channel 69 even have a newsroom? Probably would have been better to partner with 46 and their news operation. Heck, Meredith owns the Time Inc. magazines now, so they could use Time, People, SI, etc. branding like CNN used to do. Even a Southern Living segment.

If you want to use Chicago as an example, all news is far more successful in Chicago than it was in Atlanta.

There are far more fans of Christian music in Atlanta than Chicago, and Chicago is a bigger city. You should know that.

There are far more fans of Christian music in Atlanta than Chicago, and Chicago is a bigger city. You should know that.

And there are far more fans of Christian music in Nashville than Atlanta, relative to market size.

K-Love, as of 2018, was shedding audience. I doubt The Fish will be outplayed.

Far from it.

MAJOR DIP IN “K-LOVE” LISTENERS

However, as of now, Salem and EMF are in a virtual tie.

Seems to me WLVU is getting better ratings than the previous format on that frequency.

That is likely to happen in Atlanta.

No basis for comparison with the previous format. WLVU has been programmed by EMF for 6 years.

Nowhere have I said that EMF will beat The Fish, just that they will do better than WYAY using that same tower. Even if they get half of the audience that the Fish gets, it will still be more than have heard that signal in a long time.

Half the audience would not be "a strong challenger to The Fish." Overall 2018 performance for Christian radio in Atlanta from Rodney Ho:

"Fish 104.7 (5.05), finished fifth overall. Gospel Praise (3.32) lost 15 percent of its listeners and fell to 15th from 11th place. Christian pop Joy 93.3 saw growth again, up 69 percent over two years, the biggest leap of any station in the top 20."

EMFs task is daunting. No local presence, K-Love constantly asks for money, satellite hosts lack engagement and the playlist is very narrow. K-Love improbably banned promotion for the anti-abortion movie, "Unplanned."

Unless eclipsing WYAY's 1.3 is the criterion, I don't foresee a strong challenge.
