New Morning Edition Theme

If you're a listener to NPR's Morning Edition, you'll hear a change in the show's theme music starting Monday May 6:

To my ear, I can barely hear any similarity to the original theme, which was much more melodic. You can hear the new theme here:

The original theme was designed to fit on primarily classical format stations. Today the show airs mostly on news/talk stations.

There's a callback to the Liederman music about halfway through the billboard and at the end.

One thing that I can't pick out is a signature. Traditionally program music has attempted to have a 5 second or less signature that is memorable, and can be easily recognized in a remix. The Liderman theme for Morning Edition had this. I'll be interested to hear this in more locations through the coming week, and it may emerge.

I always liked the Morning Edition theme (the old one.) Never a fan of All Things Considered's theme, though. Wish they changed that one.
