A prediction come true

Someone on this board, I believe, had predicted about 18 months ago that, before too long, WBZ anchors would be providing newscasts for WRKO, and it’s now a reality, at least for this morning.

Not that there’s anything unusual about this, since WBZ-TV provides newscasts for WSBK, and WHDH supplies newscasts to WLVI.

WBZ has been doing bottom of the hour news updates on RKO at nite for months....and......starting today they have started doing news updates at the top of the hour on Talk1200 - anchor is Ben Parker.

I'd heard Evan Heydenrich on both 680 and 1200 at top of the hour doing separate newscasts for both, most likely recorded minutes earlier. RKO has featured WBZ newscasters talking with hosts at times.

On an early evening last Sep I heard WBZ's breaking news coverage of the Lawrence area gas explosions, on 680, cutting in and out of Howie.

I hardly listen to WRKO anymore (since they ditched the Morning Show), save for The Financial Exchange between 10:00 AM and noon. Ben Parker did the news there this morning, long after he'd left the air at 'BZ (he was covering for Jeff Brown on 'BZ this morning). I also heard Deb Lawlor and Nicole Davis, and yes, they must be pre-recorded, since at noon Nicole was heard on 'RKO as well as live on 'BZ.

I haven't listened to Talk 1200 in months, nor was I aware 'BZ was supplying newscasts to 'RKO at night. I thought the only news heard there was from ABC News Radio.

Makes sense, since 'BZ IS the go-to place for breaking news. I guess iHeart's TTWN service is pretty much a traffic service for Boston now, since The Weather Channel is providing weather on 'RKO.

I do recall the day some while back before the move to Medford that Dan Rea was a guest by phone on what was then Kuhner's mid-day slot. Kuhner was so proud that that both he and Rea would be using the very same chair in the very same studio! If there were other interactions between 'RKO hosts and 'BZ news personnel, I was not aware of it.

BZ's Adam Kaufman is also providing a sports update during Crazy Kuhner's morning show. The BZ news reports sound much better than those provided by the TTN, although the same prerecorded newscast ran at 12:00pm,1:00pm and 2:00pm this afternoon.

Pre-recorded is ok, but the same recording should not be used hour after hour. This could diminish using 'BZ to provide this service, since one would expect more current product.
