E-skip 6/5/2019 with a couple of newbies

Spotty Es on 6/5 (albeit conditions were much better to the NNE of me as the Kittitas WA SDRConsole was loaded with DX). Still two new logs! Audio clips to be posted later when I have more time.

9:45AM - 95.7 KPUR Claude, TX; with commercials for Lang Tire in Amarillo and the Canyon Independence Day Celebration. Relog (ex-KARX), 100KW at 1260 miles. Heard on unattended recording while at college.
then
10:55AM - 96.1 KCTX Childress, TX; partial ID 'Country music for the rolling plains, 96.1 KC...' and into country song. NEW #658, 50KW at 1,355 miles.
10:57AM - 95.5 KPHT Rocky Ford, CO; weak with weather forecast and ID '95.5 KPHT'. Relog, 100KW at 1033 miles.
11:36AM - 96.3 KERP Ingalls, KS; with local ads for event in Dodge City. Relog, 100KW at 1188 miles
11:50AM - 95.1 KICT Wichita, KS; with local ad for restaurant in Wichita. Relog, 100KW at 1322 miles.
11:55AM - 92.3 tentative KKGQ Wichita, KS; with 'Tennessee River' Alabama followed by Brooks & Dunn 'Boot Scootin' Boogie.' They are classic country and likely the target. Relog if so.
11:57AM - 92.1 UNID with Joe Nichols 'Yeah'. Likely KREP Belleville KS, a relog. Also had a very strong Classical on 88.7 that later faded. Considering this as a tentative KLNE Lexington NE.
12:05PM - 96.5 KRGI Grand Island NE, weak with Dierks Bentley song and ID 'Country 96.' Relog, 100KW at 1173 miles.
then nothing (spotty and too much RFI in the house) UNTIL I parked the car away from the RFI and tried for a few minutes on the Supertuner IIID, then first Es log ever on 91.3!
12:59PM - 91.3 KNCM Appleton, MN; with end of BBC Newshour (story on 75th anniversary of D-Day) and ID 'You're listening to 91.3 KNCM Appleton.' They are part of Minnesota Public Radio's news network. This was right next to KYPL-91.1 (local) and the local KAWZ xlator on 91.5. WOW! NEW #659, 82KW at 1188 miles. Also heard was a 90.9 with Religious programming, but it faded out before I could get an ID. I suspect it was KJWR Windom MN, the closest match to Appleton-Willmar.

So 2 new ones but it's still a start. Now with an open weekend ahead, I'm hoping for a really big Es event.

Forgot to mark one more new station from yesterday, but it was NOT Eskip...

around 11:50AM - 101.7 KLRR Redmond, OR; fair fadeup of Adult Album Alternative/folk music (97.5 KNLR Bend also faded up at the same time). KZXR-FM Prosser off the air, only possible match on 101.7 with an Es MUF not reaching that high. NEW #660, 23KW at 176 miles. Had a tentative on this in 2014, but I was up on a hike south of Rimrock (25-30 miles W) and it was knife-edge.

You have to install the SDRConsole software. I believe it's V2.3.
https://www.sdr-radio.com/Software/Downloads/Version2
Once installed, run it and I believe you click on remote connection. It will bring up a list of receivers. The AJ7JA Ellensburg/Kittitas one is the one that I'm talking about. However, ONLY ONE PERSON AT A TIME can use it. If one of our Global Tuners users is on there, you can't use it. Often it's open in the evenings. The reception is just plain fantastic on FM. The best open frequencies are 89.3, 93.1 and 94.7. A few Seattle FMs make it, with varying strength (sometimes 98.1 KING-FM is quite clear, same with 94.1 KSWD). It's the only receiver in which I can hear any proof that KFNY-102.9 is still doing South Sound Smooth Jazz, albeit 110 miles over the Cascades does make it quite fuzzy. I can't get KFNY here in Yakima of course. I have to go into the mountains, where it's listenable around Rimrock.

Impressive stuff, crain. As usual. As you know, I'm basically not an FM guy, but I can't help but get a kick out of and getting blown away by reading your posts. Keep 'em coming!

I agree with cyberdad. Crain, your work is second to none! I wish I was as good as DXing as you are. It's something that i'm still learning.

What other equipment do you need in order to do this?

Still waiting to hear about what equipment I need for this software please.

An SDR that can run a few dozen to hundreds of dollars, computer, antenna, coax and possible an adapt or two to connect the antenna to the SDR (software defined radio)

So, any more E activity to report after that promising early-June start, or has this been a quiet summer in the Northwest? I haven't even been hearing much tropo here in Connecticut.

So far this has been the worst Es season ever for me. Even worse than 2012. This month I've had one minute and 30 seconds of sporadic-E. In one month! And do keep in mind, I check the DXmaps, TVFM Skip Log and etc. all the time. Clouds just haven't been good to us this month.
