W244EK Young Country 96.7 To Bring Hip-Hop/Country Hybrid To Nashville

Ross on Radio hit the high notes as well on June 11th. FWIW, the signal is now sounding better. I caught it from near the tower well into the Brentwood area. Actually impressed by the range and clarity. They were working on the signal tonight.

I have to say, I really continue to like the music. Maybe it is just a loop at this point, but there is something positive happening here. I heard nothing but music on a computer. Not overly tight, yet. I did not hear any IDs or any form of moniker, sweepers, etc. Things will probably be improving soon. I think even Firepoint should be able to hear it this weekend.

I have heard it from down in Forest Hills this week, Lowe's in west Nashville last weekend.

I noticed a great improvement on Monday...so I did a signal test drive yesterday (Tuesday June 18). El Jefe translator must have been down Monday as YOCO was
barely audible in the eastern edge of Davidson County (7 Points area)...with occasional battle with WBVR Bowling Green.
Yesterday found El Jefe owning the frequency (with occasional WBVR breaking in) all the way in to Briley Parkway. Just west of Briley...YOCO takes over with
only occasional blips of El Jefe. However...reaching the 24/40 merge found El Jefe and YOCO battling...with El Jefe winning the battle all the way to 65 south merge at Science Center. At that point no sign of YOCO...just El Jefe...to Wedgewood...and across to VU campus. YOCO would pop in occasionally...but not listenable at any point.
I understand YOCO is only licensed for 99watts and El Jefe is 250...but the math isn't working here. I'm hoping a fix is in the works: remember how bad the 98.3 translator signal was their first few days? That was corrected nicely....so...maybe...

98.3 = Haha. Maybe!

I was about of town for a few days and have not had a chance to listen. I wonder if the winds and storms have already screwed up the signal? I was surprised that it covered 65 toward Brentwood, until the hills from hell. I do kind of miss El Jefe. The blend of the two stations is very entertaining.

I guess it doesn't matter if it's 99w or 250w, since it's 17 songs on repeat. I feel like this really is Y-107 all over again, just with weirder music. Outrageous.

LOL. Thanks for the laugh. Outrageous. Hahaha.

I have a lot of place memories associated with songs over the years, but I hear the bulk of new songs the same way—sitting at the computer, often after opening an e-mail blast at midnight on Friday. Blanco Brown’s “The Git Up” was an exception. It was the first song playing when I went to check out Nashville-area WYCZ (YoCo 96.7) last month. “The Git Up” wasn’t first song played on YoCo, veteran music producer Pollo Da Don’s hybrid of Country, Pop, Hip-Hop and anything else to which you can two-step. (That was Kane Brown’s “Heaven.”) But it is certainly a defining song.

In the month since I first heard it, Top 40 has been relatively quick on “The Git Up.” As of July 11, it’s up 46-40 airplay, according to Nielsen BDSRadio. Early supporters include many of the secondary Southern markets where both Country and R&B crossovers have started in the past: Lafayette, La., (where it’s around 50 spins on both the Mainstream and Rhythmic Top 40), Columbia, S.C., and Greenville, S.C. WFLZ Tampa has spread it to KSLZ (Z107.7) St. Louis, something which happened with regularity 20 years ago. WKXJ (Kiss 103.7) Chattanooga, Tenn.—known for playing a line-dance remix of “Rocky Top” in its early days—is there, too. And now the question is what Country radio will do.

And one song The Git Up has been getting attention on 96.7 and other places around the nation.

I tell you, the music on YoungCountry is pretty addictive. Admittedly, I have not listened in about a week. I hope they have continued to "bring it up.....and take it to the left...and it doesn't take a dip..."

This is why when people on these boards complain that radio plays the same songs all the time, I suggest they simply tune around the dial.

BigA - truth here is no one is paying attention to this jukebox. I am a bit surprised. Regardless, the songs that are on are worth listening to once every few hours. I wish there was a bit more flash and spice, but once you listen to it, it gets into you blood. I have high hopes that this station will evolve. I have been in and out of the city as of late and forget to tune in online and on air. This board reminded me and so far every song for the last hour has been refreshing. There is something about what is goin' on here that serves to pave the way to radio circa 2020. With this signal, online is where it is going to have to shine. Have you spent time listening? Thoughts, if you have? I know it's a tiny niche format, but it does make wonder how this would play in some of the top cities. Ain't no mass, but it's a media that sure could change the dance floor.

There was so much talk about this station when it launched. Since the it's been crickets. Any impressions now that it has been going for a while?

still not impressed

I'm still not impressed with them, but they skew WAY young for me. Tuned them in again the other day (or tried to). Still not impressed. Signal is still weak within the city proper. I give them a year at most. But still better than their previous format.

I think there is a serious lack of focus and interest, Firepoint. I forget listen. Tried to listen a few days ago, and the signal was not up to par for where it should be extremely listenable. I have also noticed dead air between the songs and no content in between. I think this project has all the makings of a disaster. Owner/operator not local. Signal looked good on a contour map, but did not pan out upon signal launch and lack of focus or knowledge of what a radio station should sound like. There is only one official "jukebox" station in town and it's top rated and everyone knows every song. This station ain't none of that.
