US Open in Prime-time

Interesting the US Open golf tourney from Pebble Beach, CA is on prime-time tonight for the Eastern/Central time zones on Fox. I don't remember this ever happening before. But now that the gates are open, is this something that will become a yearly strategy? If the tourney is on NBC or CBS, would they do the same? My guess is Fox has changed the landscape on this major event. However, nearly impossible to do if the match is played in the east.

Next year's Open moves back to the east coast, so no. This could only happen with Fox. Seems like they did this with one other tournament last year. I'm watching it myself, so it'll be interesting to see where it shows up in the ratings.

Had this been NBC or CBS, the tee time would have been two hours earlier.
 
The US Open has been played in San Francisco at the Olympic course. It wrapped up around 930pm Eastern
(630pm Pacific). It was also played at Chambers Bay a few years ago. Same thing.

If it is a West Coast venue, it is usually scheduled for these times...
 
FOX had an ulterior motive. Before the US Open, they aired the women's world cup USA vs Chile. FS1 was busy with an earlier World Cup match, and two NASCAR races in the afternoon, so there wasn't a lot of room to shuffle.

The truck race was moved to today because of inclement weather. So FS1 aired both back to back, after the first World Cup match.
 
I remember when NBC had the rights airing US Open in Prime Time when it was playing on the West Coast, so it isn't anything new for the US Open to on in prime time on the east coast.

That may be, but when the AT&T Pro Am is played every year at Pebble Beach, it ends at 7PM ET.
 
Showing sports is a good move for Fox to get higher ratings. Otherwise they would have shown a Beat Shazam rerun on Friday along with MasterChef, which they will this Friday.

actually after the truck race they went to NHRA Drag Racing from Bristol
The truck race started at 11am CDT and the Busch/Nationwide/Xfinity race was at 4:30pm

Had there been a Game 7 between Toronto and Golden State for the NBA Championship, that would have siphoned off some viewers. Nevertheless, Golf is great theatre and there are many high calibur players. This #1 rating was without Woods in contention. People are tuning in for the entire field now...

Since it's typically played at Augusta National, that limits how late you can go. This year, the Open was in California.

Also the Open is USGA, which is a different contract from the PGA. So no Jim Nance.

The Masters is always played at Augusta. The US Open, British Open and PGA are played at different venues each year.

Jim Nance works for CBS. CBS covers the Masters. Nance made a guest appearance on the Fox Open coverage because he lives near Pebble Beach. CBS granted him permission to appear as a guest...

If CBS had the rights to the US Open Nantz would be there.

The British Open will always be on early mornings in the US. 2 am on the east coast.
