What will the effect be in Houston?

They're retaining current management, so it looks like their goal is to keep the gravy train rolling.

True, but that management now will have new bosses who will want more gravy on that train. The Cox TV stations are already bracing for significant layoffs once that side of the deal closes.

I don’t see any changes for KKBQ other than tweaks to regain audience share lost to the surging Bull.

However there could be some changes in store for the other three Cox outlets here. Country Legends skews very old and bills poorly. It would not surprise me if the northern simulcast of The Eagle was moved to 97.1 and a new format launched on 106.9. I don’t think there would be any real loss of the Classic Rock audience as the 97.1 signal is good in Montgomery County, and the 107.5 signal is still easily receivable over the rest of Houston metro.

This would appear to remove the possibility of a piecemeal sale of the Cox cluster here, which will have an effect on other stations that are possibly on the block. Might light a fire under Urban One in offloading KROI.

Still waiting to see what changes the Liberman bankruptcy and reorganization will bring here once that process is complete.

Maybe The Bull is doing so well because of Y100 from San Antonio, they're also on 100.3 so maybe a lot of those ratings are coming from people either from San Antonio or familiar with Y100 from San Antonio. Maybe a lot of people travel between the two cities and leave their preset button set to country IDK.
San Antonio's 92.9 is Spanish music, country listeners I'm not sure also listen to Spanish music.

In the PPM, a San Antonio PPM panelist will have any away from home listening credited to the San Antonio book. It does not count in the Houston book.

Cool I just figured there were listeners who share between the two towns and love country.

What Cox needs for growth is something you won't hear on air. They need a digital strategy. One that maximizes the value of their TV and radio combo.

They have maximized the value on air, but they haven't even begun to look at other platforms.

This happened to the Houston Houston book last year when KBPA showed up with a 0.1. I guess someone took the PPM to Austin for the weekend.
