From a horses mouth

Just heard from the Horses(---) That the License of KZPO - 103.3 B1 - Lindsay, CA will soon be turned in to the FCC to be cancelled. Mr. Zawila has been taken to the wood shed and has been beaten up to the point that his health and age have made it better for him to tell the FCC that he will give up operating KZPO FM.

Don't worry about KNGS FM or KZPE FM. Zawila will hang on to the paper work as long as he can. They will long be on the books.

Good format but poor operator.

As a B1 worth +900 K. As a full B +1 M. However the FCC wants to push Zawila over a Cliff and KZPO along with it. It would cost someone a lot of cash for a FCC attorney to get the FCC to transfer the license. Which would only happen IF a Minority would be willing to apply under the old Minority Distress rules. They have been reinstated and most FCC attorneys are not up on that fact.. However it would be a long shot at best and who needs another FM in Fresno ???

The most recent comparable sale is KIOO in 2012 for $450,000. That station had respectable billing and is a full B. Given the price declines in the last 8 years, I would guess that KZPO's stick value is perhaps $200,000 fully built.

KZPO does not touch any part of the Fresno MSA with a 60 dbu signal. It is strictly Tulare, Porterville, Visalia signal. As that is an economically depressed market, it's going to be tough to get a buyer for the signal unless it is for an ethnic broadcaster or a religious one.

David, thanks for your reply. However -- the last two B1's in the area both sold for just over 900 K each. KNGS is a Full B at 100.1 Coalinga and KZPO is a B1 and can be upgraded as a Full class B. BOTH - from new sites will provide a 70 dBu signal over the City of Fresno.

KZPO as a B1 covers into Fresno much better than KIOO.

The Bank is willing to sell all 3 (CP's of KNGS and KZPE and KZPO B1 License) for well below what they are worth. However -- no one wants to step up and deal with Zawila. No ome is smart enough to go to the bank - direct - and make an offer say 400 - 500 K.

And it would take finding a willing Broadcast Attorney to fight to save the stations.

David
I think you are correct. Maybe -- on a very good day -- KZPO is worth Maybe 200 K -- at
best. That is why the horse -- is willing to turn in the license and take up knitting or something more worthwhile.
