KFI with Neil Saavedra?

I'm getting so tired of KFI's Neil Saavedra constantly on the air touting this or that....mostly his culinary stuff....

He comes off very condescending with his dam* "Fork Reports." He has his 2 hour show on the weekends, he is featured on Bill Handel, Gary and Shannon, and now on Tim Conway's show. Then he does his nationally syndicated Jesus Christ Show which is quite good.

Just because he is the assistant program director should not give him the leeway to be always on the air....

What does everyone else think?

I haven’t liked KFI since they stopped playing music.

Perhaps it's generational perception. I'm a listener under 40, and KFI is the only (non-NPR) talk station in the country I can stand.

Neil may be a tad condescending, but he's interesting. Cooking isn't really my thing, but I do find his Fork Reports interesting.

I'm not sure KFI played music in my lifetime. lol

Its funny how when kfi switched to talk kabc rule talk in la. Kabc laughed at there miniscule numbers at first. Funny what a difference 31 years make. Kabc is barely a footnote with few listeners where kfi rules.

I haven't listened since they muzzled John and Ken after the Whitney Houston episode. It just not as stimulating as it used to be. Corporate approved and cleared talk rarely is.

How would you know if they're not as stimulating if you haven't listened? It's not a tight muzzle.

I check in from time to time to see what is going on, but I am not a regular listener like I was before. From what I can tell, the muzzle is very tight.

I am pretty sure when this all went down J&K were told if they get into another "mess" the station will not support them. They make very good salaries of which they are interested in protecting. I can't blame them, we all have families to look after. So when they were told "this time will be the last time", they made sure of it and have been conspicuously absent from any large-scale public controversies ever since. And the show is just a shadow of its former self; not worthy of my drive-time listening anymore.

I dont know but that. John and ken are still pretty thought provoking to me. Defenitely worth listening to. There one of the most listened to local talk show in the country with 1.2 million people listenin so there doin something right. Love how they give crap to newsome and garcetti.

I haven't liked KFI since the overload of commercials, maybe they've always had a lot, just can't tolerate that many commercials. A few years ago after I became a non-regular listener to Bill Handel, I would tune in and 7 times out of 10 I'd hear a series of commercials but no Bill. Got old pretty quickly. Nowadays EVERY time I even THINK about sampling Handel (always lots of news that I wonder what his take is on current events) I remember it's gonna be 15 minutes of program content and 45 minutes of commercials, and several news breaks. No more for me.

What exactly did John & Ken do before that they don't do now? I love the show. They know how to identify and call out BS in a way that's both humorous and serious at the same time. They know how to use radio as "theater of the mind," as with "features" like "Hack in a Dumpster" and satirical news reports like "The Execution Desk." I've read before that they've been "muzzled" but I can't imagine how.

HANDEL IS TIRED - "Yelliing Bill" is predictable, etc.

Bill Handel is also getting long in the tooth. He's predictable on what he is going to shout into a microphone. Jane Wells for the past week in his place truly became what I regard as "appointment radio." She needs more energy, but overall, having listeners calling in was a nice respite from Yelling Bill.

Overall, the station is ready for a bit of a revamp. It has become overall predictable and stale. John and Ken are mainstays. I'm not sure what I would do with Tim Conway. He's good, but stale. And if I hear another "ding dong" I could do something rash. :)

John and Ken are mainstays.

As somebody under 35, trying to make it in Southern California, I'm sick and tired of hearing John and Ken whine (in their entitled Baby Boomer way) about how awful they think LA is, while living a privileged life here. Their complaints are 100% out of touch with my generation. ("We need to save Prop 13. I hate high density housing. Why can't cops beat up people sleeping in their cars?") Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out how to afford an apartment (buying is discouragingly impossible) on less than 50% of my salary. There's a massive shortage and they advocate AGAINST new housing? Geez, I would GLADLY swap problems with J&K.

At least Handel still seems to be somewhat in touch with problems relevant to those under age 40 (maybe because his daughter still lives at home?). And on politics, I know he's going to hop all over the road and not just spout a party line, which is refreshing. I want to hear multiple viewpoints and challenge my ideological bubble. I get some of that from Handel. I get some of that from Gary and Shannon. But it vanishes with J&K.

If KFI wants my demo, they are heading in the right direction in recent years. The whole 1990s conservative talk radio shtick is tooooooootally unlistenable for someone my age. I'm glad they bumped the Rush and Company over to KEIB.
