KUTX 98.9 Moves to New Site

KUTX filed that they have constructed their new site. It is technically a downgrade from a C2 to a C3 with lower power, but from a lot higher antenna at a more central location.

How does it sound where you are?

Does this mean KLMO can move closer to SA?

As far as KUTX goes, possibly. Moving KLMO closer to San Antonio would require a downgrade from the current C1 class to a C2 or C3. A downgrade though would mean that it could no longer serve Dilley with the city-grade contour so any move would first require a change of the community-of-license to Devine or a community in that area.

However, their real obstacle with moving closer is going to be KBBT, which is just two channels away. Under their current class they could move 2 km closer to KBBT. If they downgraded to a C2 they could move 5 km closer. That's not going to be worth the trouble and would still incur all of the community-of-license coverage issues.

KUTX sounded clean and strong in Willco when I was listening last night.

Austin is a great market for AAA music. You've got non-commercial 98.9 KUTX, owned by the University of Texas. You've got non-commercial, listener supported 1490 KTSN, The Sun Network, and its six or seven FM translators and low power simulcast FM stations around Central Texas. And Austin used to have a high powered FM signal, KGSR 93.3, known as Austin City Limits Radio. But while the FM is now Soft AC, it uses a translator in Austin at 97.1 to continue Austin City Limits Radio.

That's quite a line up!
