Ratings: July

Anyone notice that WFNX FM is now above the line? Are they referring to the online reincarnation, Indie 617?

So what? With the internet today, anything anyone does will face "vocal opposition." Take a look at all the complaints about the morning show at WEEI. Everyone likes to complain. It's the easy/lazy thing to do.

The fact is they own the station, and they program it the way they see fit.

No ones arguing the fact that they own the station-duh. I said there vocal opposition. Which is reflected on their social media pages and their ratings-sue me for it.

I don't know anybody who programs a radio station to appeal to social media. Opinions are like noses, everybody's got one.

Ok. It's hard to believe that an Athol signal actually is getting numbers in Boston

Athol is in the Boston radio Metro Survey Area. What limits it is signal coverage, not location.

Indie617 doesn't brand as WFNX even though former WFNX people are involved and the format is based on a continuation of the old WFNX format going into the present.

It's people listening to the WXRV simulcast on what is now WFNX 99.9 from Athol, which actually covers a good chunk of north central MA, considered in the Boston ratings market.

“Ashley Feldman is ****ing painful. @JAMN945 it didn't work the first time why would it this time. "...lil shawty." Actual quote.”

Searched JAMN 945 out of curiosity. Mostly just to see what music they were playing recently. I know this doesn’t prove anything but I do think people dislike Ashlee in general.

" Actual quote.”

From an actual anonymous twitter user talking trash!

No quantifying if it's a real user, in the demo, or one of Ashlees ex-boyfriends trashing her.

Yeah, that should tell us what "most people" think!

but I do think people dislike Ashlee in general.

They've had Ashlee on morning before and she's been on the station awhile. You don't think before they made this major move that they did more focused research than your Twitter troll?

How is research working gut for them. I cant lie, i do find it amusing watching them fail so miserably.

We'll see! ;-) If they got back all of their morning avails, then they are probably doing much better billing-wise than they were with a NYC based morning show. If they are getting more advertisers based on having Ashlee and company doing live endorsements, live reads, appearances, etc...then they could very well be doing better.

I don't think it's been enough time to see any conclusions in the ratings. (What was her first day?)

Wow...surprised me! ;-)

But most of us know that this is a personal issue, simply based all around you and your likes/dislikes.

99.9 Athol hasn't relayed The River for a few years.
It's a classic hits station without live hosts.
It showing up as alternative station is not accurate.
2 mistakes.
1.Time for the ratings service to update its info.
2. WXRV may or may not report as alternative, but still is a AAA

Here are the July Nielsen ratings:

WKAF seemed to have been doing well before it's format change. (Maybe too well?) I don't know if 97.7 will ever be able to stand on its own, it appears just to simply be a foil for Hot 96.9.)

There lineup is 2 people? 1 voicetracked over from kiss? AM/PM drive done by 1 person?

Can you say "no budget"?

Her first day was March 23rd. They’ve declined every single book since she took over.
Also it’s not really an NYC-based show seeing as they are in like 65 different market and they would personally shout out locales in the Boston Area, even specific neighborhoods in Boston. They also came up to Boston for promo and events fairly frequently. The main voice of the show is originally from South Carolina.

Nielsen does not report formats to the websites that list ratings; the sites themselves assign format names. That's why the formats listed on different sites can be so different.

While Nielsen does ask stations to report their format, this data is only part of the computer-generated reports agencies and subscribers get. And if stations do not update their Station Information Packet (SIP) they the sole responsible parties in the misinformation at the Nielsen level.

WFNX is registered with Nielsen as "Album Adult Alternative". Any listing of it at a different format is the public website or newspaper's fault.

If a station reports an inaccurate format name (from an approved list) it's not checked by Nielsen. A competitive station can report it, though. But in this case, the station is so insignificant that nobody probably cares.

Are you sure about that? I thought the short lived Variety hits format was replaced by the second time they have simulcast The River at least a couple years ago now.

I thought 99.9 relayed The River from 2008 to 2014, then went to an automated classic hits/adult variety hits format, then dropped that in 2016 and switched back to The River simulcast again, to the present (though they left the website from the automated format up). When I drove through there on Route 2 earlier this year I heard The River on 99.9.

That’s the timeline I believe to be true as well.

Really? 99.9 WFNX is in the Boston market? I highly doubt people in Athol (or much of northern Worcester County, really) listens to Boston stations more than Worcester stations. Same with Hillsborough County, NH. The only station that targets Boston from Worcester County is WAAF (and every station in Hillsborough County targets Manchester, not Boston.)
