Mike Lynch’s Replacement

Any guesses. Bob Halloran? Duke Castiglione? Someone from another station in our market like Raul Martinez? Someone from another market?

I was surprised they haven’t announced him or her yet. Not much a fan of Duke, and Bob is a little low key (but then again, so was Mike).

Duke is a terrible anchor. I just cannot imagine him replacing Mike Lynch or even moving to the sports dept. But I think we already have our answer on the Channel 5 website. On the Team page, Lynchie is now referred to as a Sports Correspondent. Bob Halloran is listed as Sports Anchor/Reporter while Josh Brogadir is listed as Sports Reporter/Anchor. Josh came to WCVB a couple of years ago to fill in in the Sports Dept while Bob Halloran was recovering from health issues. He has mostly been used as a general assignment reporter since then. So I'd say that Halloran is the new primary sports guy and Josh replaces Halloran in the field.

Keep in mind that Lynchie will still be around. He will still do High 5 (which is weekly, during the school year anyway); he will still do the Thanksgiving high school football special; and whatever special projects he may want to do.

Natalie Jacobsen posted a nice video for Mike:

By the way, not to start something, but both Harvey Leonard and Maria Stephanos are missing from the News Team page on WCVB's website.

Maria and Harvey are both there. Maria is listed toward the bottom of the list of anchors, because they are listed alphabetically. And Harvey is listed at the bottom of the page with the other weather people as “Chief Meteorologist”.

Yeah - looks like Bob Halloran is now weeknight sports anchor - he is listed as “Sports Anchor/Reporter”. Josh is likely the weekend guy - he’s listed as “Sports Reporter/Anchor” (note how the order of his duties differs from Bob’s).

I’m glad I’m not the only one who dislikes Duke - something about him really bugs me.

.

That is soooooooo strange. Looking at that page yesterday (using Internet Explorer...yes, I know), that news team page looked different than I see it today using Microsoft Edge. For example, Mike Beaudet, Karen Anderson, and Kathy Curran were grouped together under the 5 Investigates banner when I was looking at it yesterday. Today, they are alphabetically listed with everyone else. And, like I said, neither Harvey nor Maria were listed at all. But they are there now. I swear it. I really really do!

Two things:

1) Who cares? It's 2019. Nobody watches their local station for sports other than the Sunday shows during football. This change is less than a blip on the average person's screen.

2) Bob Halloran still eats paste. I can never watch him after listening to his attempt at sports radio. He is a caricature of the dumb local TV guy.

After a week of the news anchor running the sports segment (Duke Castiglione last weekend, Ed Harding during the week...both basically narrating everything with no actual sports stories from anyone that I saw), Bob Halloran came by to anchor sports last night (Thursday). And wouldn't you know. New Sports Correspondent Mike Lynch had one of the stories. It was about Roger Clemens pitching the first two innings of an old timers game in Cambridge Mass. Roger was in town for that and the Jimmy Fund radio-telethon.
