JJZ back on terrestrial radio

Well, super tiny signal, but a signal is a signal. I hear rumors that the little 104.1 translator in Trenton is simulcasting WISX-HD2 again, thus smooth jazz JJZ once again, now that Breakthrough Radio is done there. Can anyone confirm?

Back in the golden days of WJJZ about 20 years ago, JJZ always performed very well in Trenton books. They should have a little fun with it and actually promote it up ... "Smooth Jazz is back in Trenton on 104.1. Smooth Jazz JJZ 104.1." I mean why not? What else is there to put on there? It might actually pick up a handful of loyal listeners. Grab a sponsor or two and pay for the electric bill.

They are quite lucky up in trenton. That 104.1 signal does not make it through WPHI's HD sidebands here in Haddon Heights. I'll stick to WISX-HD2 on my insignia tabletop receiver.

Were you ever able to pick up that 104.1 translator in Haddon Heights? Regardless of HD sidebands, it seems like a stretch for a flea powered translator in Trenton to make it all the way down there.

Not a chance. 104.jpg

No, I've heard it once before when WPHI was no-hd in the north of Pemberton, but it was brief.

For those losing track of where WJJZ has been:

1993-2006: 106.1 Philly (now WISX)
2006-2008: 97.5 Burlington, NJ (now WPEN)
2013-2017: 1480 Philly (still WDAS even though they called it "JJZ")
2012-present: 106.1 WISX-HD2 Philly
2019-present: 104.1 W281BI Trenton

1460 AM: Mount Holly, NJ from the early 60's to the early 80's with a transmitter on Burlington Island when the license was revoked.

If I may add to your fine list there, Kev .....

In the 70's, around there, a 5000-watt daytime directional signed on 1460 from their city-of-license Mount Holly NJ.
The calls were WJJZ. This new facility broadcast from four towers from some sand-spit in the Delaware River. One of their nulls -- the northeast null -- was because of a WVOX New Rochelle NY. WVOX 1460 was essentially as NYC local and listed in the newspapers and road maps as such.

WOW, were WJJZ one tough 'male offspring of a female canine' to hear upion Queens near JFK. I caught them ONCE and only once.
So I couldn't tell you what their format was. All I heard, in a super-surreal null of semi-local WVOX 1460, was an ad for the Burlington County Times, or some newspaper with a similar name.

https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WIFI&service=AM&h=D

We DXed from near the 'r' in New York.

I'm fairly certain that the new 1460 / WIFI / Mount Holly broadcasts from a different tower site than originally.

Now this 1460 station is known as 'WIFI' -- taken after a previous Philly station (and a good one) on 92.5. In fact, oddly, I once casually HEARD this WIFI 1460 one sunrise / breakfast at a paint job in nearby St. Clair. They do send a bit of a signal tongue our way, north of Pottsville on the map.

Thanks for the history, Kev !

1460 WJJZ was silent for many years until it signed back on as WIFI with a stick and studio in Florence, NJ back in the early 90's. It was a mixture of Christian programming weekly and oldies on the weekends.
