W264BH 100.7 Now on air

In what quite possibly is the most redundant and destructive translator now on air, W264BH is indeed on air. Translating WKVP K-love 106.9, it totally wipes out WLEV and WZXL. I have no idea why this is even a thing. 106.9 has the strongest coverage in the philly market at 38kW. It's a blowtorch signal heard as far away as Cape May and as north as Wilkes-Barre. This translator must be taken off air. It is pointless.

There could be more than we know. But as it stands, this thing is staying on air. Again, I ask you, who the hell is going to tune to 100.7 with a shoddy weaker signal than the full power might of 106.9? Why would K-Love waste their money on such an amazingly redundant translator? I could see them putting one out near exton, because the building penetration might begin to decrease out there, but not right in downtown Philly and camden. You can probably see WKVP's tower from the translator's site!

Probably the K-Love simulcast is just a placeholder while they're looking for a buyer or lessee -- like when the new 104.7 translator in NYC was simulcasting WPAT-FM.

Generally I don’t think EMF wastes time or resources (from a business standpoint—this isn’t about anyone’s opinion of their content). That we may not know the end game is one thing, but I’d think there has to be another shoe to drop at some point.

How in the heck was that even approved? Wow. WLEV used to have pretty good coverage in Philadelphia. I guess those days are gone. I guess as long as it is engineered correctly, it won't cause problems to the Allentown or Wildwood stations, but what is that point of that? 106.9 covers everywhere that thing does. I bet they're going to lease that out to someone else at some point and the K-Love is just a placeholder.

Ding.

I should know this, but not off the top of my head at the moment, is Air One listenable in that area?

Just pondering possibilities all across the spectrum.

They try to have both the refreshed Air 1 and KLove on in each market.

EMF and iHeart do all sorts of horse trading with translators and HD subchannels in various markets. I would not be surprised if that was the case here...but we shall see!

Just because its "pointless" doesn't mean it should be taken off the air. If it meets any legalities and is operating as licensed, then it's fine.

God, I can imagine if we let the DX'ers run the FCc, we'd be in a world of hurt.

EMF doesn't own it, it belongs to someone else.. this is likely just filler

Did you even bother to look things up? Iheart and EMF cant horse trade, neither of them own this.

How can they get away with no signal in their COL, also, it seems they are protecting WLEV more than WZXL. Looks like their up with WMMR and WPPZ which would put them closer to WLEV. I am sure there was a 100.7 around the Medford area a year ago simulcasting WBZC blocking out WZXL.

Translators have no city of license coverage requirements, as a Class D by virtue of the low power service, they often dont cover the city of license

also, class d am.s strict sunrise to sunset daytimers or those with less then 250 watts at night also have no city of license coverage requirements

Thanks for sharing.

MODERATOR NOTE: I cut out some of the response so this does not escalate.

It's important to note that what is obvious to "insiders" is not so obvious to radio fans, users and such!

Someradioguy-

I am pretty certain if we let DXers run the FCC- we'd be far better off. Less co-channel interference, more space for each station to breathe. No one here seems to think this 100.7 translator is a great idea. Unless they put an HD2 on the 100.7 (which 106.9 has both 2 and 3 now) then it would finally serve some sort of purpose. But as it stands, simulcasting the 38kW 106.9 signal is utterly wasteful.

LOL no, we wouldnt be better off with dxers running the fcc.. most dx'ers have little technical knowl;edge

I'm not going to argue with you. It's impossible to say most or whatever. Some have very extensive technical knowledge, some don't. I doubt you know more than the average listener.
