"The Dan Patrick Show" moves to KDUS

Interesting that they moved to KDUS, since the show is syndicated by Premiere. I just can't see anything local on KGME beating out 98.7 in AM drive. They probably should have kept Patrick.

On the other hand, The Game just signed this contract with the Coyotes promising to create a lot of local chatter about the team. Can't do that with Dan Patrick.

Very true, but the only advantage to the Coyotes being on 910 is that they're the top local priority there, as opposed to 620/98.7, where they were the red-headed stepchild after the Cards, Suns, D'backs, and ASU. The problem is that 910 has been promoted as Fox Sports 910 (and XTRA Sports 910 before that) for so long, that many local sports fans have forgotten that they actually air local sports talk. They spent years promoting Patrick, Jim Rome until he moved to CBS, and now Colin Cowherd more than their local hosts.

Can they get hockey fans to tune in? Can hockey fans in the East Valley even hear the station at night, with that null toward Scottsdale and Mesa? Their signal is so-so here in NE Mesa.

We'll find out. In the meantime, it'll be Jody's job to recap the previous night's game, so those who couldn't hear the live pbp can hear hosted highlights in the morning Drive. If I had anything to say about it, those hosted vignettes would then be available on the station's app. Those at the game might see video of Jody on the screen telling them to tune in tomorrow morning for highlights and player interviews. I would also rebrand the station (once again) to better represent the new image. The bad news, as your linked article states, is that Jody will be going head to head with Patrick.

The worse news is that Jody will be going head to head with Doug & Wolf, with All Cardinals All The Time on FM. Ron Wolfley is a Cardinals employee when he calls the games, and they are THE top priority on the Bonneville stations in Phoenix, 12 months a year.

Exactly, and he'll probably get killed. But the goal isn't to win in the ratings, but to make money, and KGME will make more money with the Coyotes than they did without them. There are likely conversations taking place daily to find ways for radio to promote the Coyotes, and for the Coyotes to promote KGME. And ALL of it will be sponsored. And the great news is the Yotes have an owner who knows and likes radio.

Then again, Wolfley is a very acquired taste, and there are a lot of sports fans here that look at 98.7 as being the "homer station," especially morning and afternoon drive hosts.

This might be a sly move by 910 if the Suns are once again mediocre and the 'Yotes actually do well this season. As long as they can contain the Right Toyota/Honda ads to the 1-4pm time slot, and if fans can find it on the iHeart app/skill.
