Format Change: KMXA 1090 Aurora/Denver

Entravision has dropped ESPN Deportes this weekend on KMXA ahead of the networks closure in a few days. The station is now playing ranchera and norteno music, ID'ing as "Jose 1090 AM". I noticed it this afternoon (September 2nd) from my listening post in Laramie.

In Wyoming?

The KMXA 0.5 mV/m contour reaches Laramie, I believe.

Yes, I'm between the purple and the blue lines on radio locator.. so i get about a 1 mV/m

BUT, kidrauhl.. i have a massive loop antenna and a reallllly sensitive radio... so i can hear many of the denver am's on and off all day depending on conditions. and i can hear some of the colorado Springs AM's around sunrise and sunset

Oh no i was saying your based out of laramie picking up these denver stations thats what I was trying to ask. And a lot of denvers am stations are 50 thousand watt stations so it wouldnt be that hard to pick up in neighbouring states. What is the range of coverage on your antenna and also do you transmit from your location at alll such as shortwave or ham radio? Thanks.

No alot of Denver area AM's are 50kw... a few are, but the majority are not.

No, I don't transmit with my antenna. And i have no defined range with the antenna, its all depending on atmosphere and the station itself that im listening to

Also what model loop antenna do you have as i am always on the lookut for them. Think about getting one myself but not sure what the best option would be.

Ah ok and yeah i can usually pick up stations from surrounding states like KVBG in Kansas with my current antenna and radio at night sometimes although that setup its not anywhere near the setup I have though. Farthest I could probably pick up is in Kansas or Utah.

Wellbrook is good. Occasionaly a Kiwa shows up on eBay, but they are pricy.

The wellbrooks are bigger and outside loops.. kiwa's are smaller and inside loops. The alan100ln allows me to make it as big as i want.. i go big or go home when it comes to DXing

The Kiwa is an adjustable azimuth loop, which (unless you are really good with servos or motor controls) allows much better nulling than an outdoor loop... unless the outdoor loop is coupled and phased with some form of vertical(s) in an array. And still, the tilting function is really useful for precision nulling, particularly of groundwave vs. skywave signals.

Yes. Out of 25 AMs licensed within the Denver MSA, only 5 are 50kw in daytime and only one is 50 kw at night.
