Channel 12's Bruce Cooper announces plans to retire

Looking forward to Coop's last year. He has certainly has had a remarkable run at 12 News and resisted being turned into a news anchor along the way! I wish him well in retirement.

Mark Curtis was a sportscaster throughout his career in Phoenix, the Twin Cities, and St. Louis, until he became a news anchor at 12 in 2004.

This. And the fact that TEGNA has been doing this at many of its stations. In fact, current 12 Today anchor Paul Gehrke was a former sports anchor (and, who knows, could be Coop's eventual replacement).
