Tour the new KNKX Studios!

I only saw one street-facing studio.

Hopefully with soundproof windows (you never know people these days and I can just imagine some idiot outside pounding on the windows while someone is on the air.)

Good point. And while maybe not as bad as it used to be in Tacoma, maybe bullet resistant too.

KING-FM has sidewalk-facing windows for their on-air studio. There is a significant air gap (about a foot) between the window facing the street and the window in the studio. The blinds actually go down between the air gap.

In a place like Queen Anne by the Dick’s, you need it to keep the ne’er-do-wells from pounding on the window miming the international “can I bum a cigarette” sign.

I really love this story. I've said this on boards for other cities: How many cities could raise $8 million to keep a radio station from changing formats. Imagine of the people of Chicago had offered to buy WLUP, or if the people if New York had offered to buy WPLJ. It's not like there aren't rich people in those cities. They just aren't interested in spending their own money on saving radio stations.

Read this quote from the article:

“The decision to stay in Tacoma was largely based on our history,” he explained. “Tacoma was instrumental in saving the station. The Tacoma City Council had a save KPLU day. It was an emotional decision in that we felt a sense of loyalty to Tacoma.”

Where else would this happen?
