Boston Radio Ratings August 2019

https://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb013

WROR #1

WBZ AM back in the top 5

Sports stations waiting for Patriots to start.

WBOS with a nice jump. Have not listened in a while, maybe Adam 12 effect ?

WODS sinking. Maybe crappy music. I do not like country rap or Billie Eilish/Post Malone and always change the station

Just curious, but would August be considered the least important month ratings wise with vacations and travel and whatnot ?

If you are not female and under 35, I'm surprised you listen to it at all.

Have you listened since it recently changed format? The change to classic hard rock this summer must have helped them, that surprises me, but I guess it shows how bland their “alternative” music format was.

Where's Liggotti"s numbers?

Oh yeah,....right next to Moby Dick's whale droppings at the bottom of the Mariana's Trench!

15 hours a week of Vamping with no calls evah! Riveting Radio!

Cheese and effn crackers.... is he still around?

I thought his radio gig died years ago.... 950 is still doing some sort of a deal with him...... who knew.... I certainly didn't

Yes I have listened for a short while.
I thought it was ok and then got bored.
Their horrid morning show is still there too.
So I am somewhat puzzled by this rating.

The music and artists of classic rock are well-known by more people than the music and artists of alt.

I haven't really listened to the radio much for a while now. I still hear either one of 4 at restaurants when out and about. Basically WZLX, Mix 104.1, WROR, and Magic 106.7. I get the most exposure to WMJX now.

I haven't really listened to much of WROR, however Magic is playing a huge amount of '80's. At last check WROR pretty sounded the same with '80's music as well with a mix of a couple or more 70's mixed in. How do they compare to Magic?

Also, how is WBOS sounding now in comparison to WZLX?

BTW, IMHO WAAF is where they should be with being consistent with their share of the audiunce.

I am concerned by WODS though. They say that a general trend of sliding is not good for a station. And that is exactly what Amp Radio is doing! I guess if they still billing well with women, then that's all what really matters.

It has been a poor performer in the "beauty pageant" numbers pretty much since it launched, yet ownership has not even tinkered with it. Either the top-secret numbers are a lot better -- e.g., the smallish audience consists entirely of bubbleheaded 18-34 or 25-44 women who spend freely and indiscriminately on any trendy product an advertiser might pitch -- or there is no format hole in the Boston market that is any more promising in terms of attracting an advertiser-desirable audience. That includes all varieties of rock, pop-centered classic hits, soft AC, classic country, dance, or any variety of Spanish-language music.

August is important as it will be in the rolling averages agencies use for their fall / Christmas buys. Agencies seldom use a single book to buy.

As far as programming, stations know not to give too much importance to the book as there are holiday effects and summer is when there is the most panel turnover.

Exactly. This is why they don't flip WODS to something else. If they still owned WRKO/WBZ AM they could put an AM on FM a la WEEI, but they can't.

Seems everyone in Boston radio is waiting for Matty to leave, and positioning themselves for landscape grab when that occurs.

Maybe someone could attempt to challenge Magic 106.7 instead?

That would be a suicide mission if you think you can improve on Magic's playlist and presentation. Challenging by going softer would hurt you deeply in the younger demos and add unwanted geezers to the audience. You'd wind up with a low-rated station with less advertiser desirability than Amp.

absolutely. and there's no reason Boston can't support two CHRs. but they have to be thinking about retooling the station/programming--they've been slowly sliding for the past 3 years. If I remember correctly, they had a high 3 or low 4 share in 2015. Are people sick of the personalities? is the music that much different than Kiss?

Now I didn't say anything about such a station being softer than Magic. And BTW, how is WNEW doing in New York. The last I knew they aiming directly against WLTW. Then again, I think that there are only 2 such stations in the NYC market right now.Besides, a new Boston AC station doesn't have to be #1, but rather grab just enough listeners from Magic to be profitable.

WNEW is Hot AC. They now have that format to themselves there with WPLJ’s recently sale to EMF.
