WOR 710 AM Ratings Surge

WOR AM has seen its overall ratings double from 2.2 in March, to 4.7 in August. This is good for #4 in the Nassau/Suffolk market.
I don't think there have been any significant recent changes in their programming. So what could be causing this? Rival WABC is only pulling 1.1.

Bwwaaahaaaa, Big A! Good one!

This memory goes back far, but out in Bethpage Long Island was where my pals lived, on and off. Their Mom and their Grandmom also lived there. With the pals, all male siblings named Marino residing there, the ladies probably felt secure enough to let them have the run of the place.

Except for the kitchen radio atop the fridge.
It was always tuned to WOR. Hands off. Their mother and maternal grandmother had WOR going 24/7/52 as if it were some sonic lighthouse. Even during their soap operas, the women had that radio playing WOR.
We'd be doing things like watching ball games in one room -- in a mirror when we were moving furniture ; try it ; it's hysterical) and WOR would be grumbling away in the kitchen.
The women probably even listened to Jean Shepherd every so often :)

I heard tell that WOR used to show up faithfully in the Philly book. Could there be any word as to how well WOR's Long Island spike affected Philadelphia ?

Yeah - and no Mets baseball either.... hmmm...... :D

Younger members of PPM households all telling Grandpa "Here, why don't you wear this thing this month?"

Two things impede this... first, if Gramps lives in the same home, every member gets a meter from age 6 and up.

If Gramps lives elsewhere, his charger/data return device is likely not going to be detected by Nielsen as being at the same location as the rest of the family... I believe the procedure is that if the separation of devices is longer than a few days, Nielsen verifies by phone. I think they have procedures for this, such as when a kid spends a weekend with the grandparents and the like. Or vacations.

They can tell if more than one meter reports absolutely identical listening to another... which also makes them call as it means one person is carrying two people's meters.

Of course, seeing the demos would reveal the source of the increase, but I don't get the NYC embedded market data.
