New AM log 9/10/19

Just after hearing that 1710 a few days ago, I snagged another newbie out of nearly the same area. Conditions are decent down that way.

1560 - KIQS CA, Willows; poor under KNZR and KVAN beaming S with Regional Mexican music at 2310 PT 9/10. Later verified // 99.7 KTOR stream and heard 99.7 and Mexicana IDs over 1560khz. Apparently KIQS is a simulcast with 99.7 and I think one other FM (translator?) NEW #784, 250 watts at 494 miles. Definitely a catch worth talking about...a quarter kilowatt! They aren't supposed to be on nights, so perhaps they left the transmitter going past sunset and forgot.

Bits and pieces of 710 Radio Rebelde under KIRO as well. 5025 seems to be weakly modulated, however.

We have had some unusually cool and dry weather for this time of year here in the Sacramento Valley (days in the 70s-low 80s, nights in the low 50’s...marine layer at the coast burns off by noon). That may explain your ability to catch things easier up there. I think today is the last “nice” day. We’ll be back in the 90’s for a few days...the weekend we should see similar “cool” conditions.

Good catch on the TIS station last time. I actually tuned into that station a couple weeks ago when picking up family thinking I had the Sacramento Int’l Airport TIS...WRONG!

Al;l of cuba's shortwave outlets.. rebelde, progresso and RHC all have modulation issues.. too low, too loud, distortion..... its been going on forever and a day and then some

Agree that RHC usually sounds awful. And has for as long as I can remember.

Not that I check out Rebelde....or anything else on SW....very often. But on my visits to Pensacola over the past few years, when I've checked it out, the audio has sounded surprisingly good. But based on what crainbebo is reporting, something may have crashed in the last six months or so, since I last tuned in.

I'm not familiar with R. Progreso on SW....but there's also the matter of R. Enciclopedia's internet stream. Complete with what might have been the web's loudest hum.
