FCC pulls KHTZ's License

I hope this doesn't open a can of worms, but the FCC has pulled the license of KHTZ Ganado/Victoria.

I had several emails with Roy Henderson about this station, earlier this year, or late last year. So what happens now? Is the station / license up for grabs? Also I know a few other groups / companies had interest in it as well.

What happens? ots gone, done.. not up for grabs. KHTZ is gone. If the FCC reallocates 94.9C! to Ganado, then folks can bid on it when it comes up for auction

Henderson also had the license of his KROY 99.7 in Palacios deleted by the FCC. Wonder if his shenanigans are putting KLTR 94.1 (Brenham) and KTWL in jeopardy?

It appears the FCC has acted in instances where a station had been off the air much of the license term, more or less. He has stations that are successful operating a format and serving their community. The last time was around San Saba, I was impressed with his classic country station...good format, some live programming and quite a few commercials.

Roy is an elderly man.
I'm not sure he much cares what happens to some of his stations. He should keep the successful stations and shut the rest down, turning-in the licenses.
That's my take on the situation.

Or better yet, he should give any silent facilities to a non-com. It takes so much work to get a station; it seems like a waste to allow a perfectly good license to vanish. But there are plenty on non-profits out that that could use the frequency. Just pick a non-profit that really seems to act honestly and isn't selling time for a dollar-a-holler. There are a few good non-profits that aren't mercenary!

It was off and on most all the time, it was off the last time I was down.

So when a station loses the license dont you have like a period of 6 months to a year before you have to cease operations to give the listeners time to recognize what is happening.

Not usually...

In some more famous license revocations, the owner has appealed the original ruling from the FCC. They lose in appeal, their options are either to appeal to Federal Courts (if applicable) or accept the ruling. In many cases, the writing is on the wall and they know they will have to sign off months beforehand.

Usually the license revocation letter sent to the licensee will specify when the station must be off air. That can range from immediately to 12:01 AM on a specified date (I’ve never seen much beyond a month)

Like KNRG, I always figured Roy snagged those call letters in hopes that someone would offer him big money to give them up someday.

I guess they could pick them up at a substantial discount now.

Who cares about those call letters? I can't think of anything KHTZ might stand for. KNRG could stand for K-Energy.
