KLLS sold?

Looks like our fellow poster "CW" is selling KLLS 1300 in Lumberton, according to rbr.com. I don't have access to the full article, so maybe CW can fill us in.

Yes it's being sold. I got tired of dealing with advertisers who didn't want to advertise because of the previous operators who left a bad taste in their mouth... Got a good deal on the station so it's being sold..
But I have other plans LOL

KLLS has a decent 2 KW directional signal from Lumberton to serve the Beaumont-Orange-Port Arthur "Golden Triangle" area. Radio-Locator.com indicates that KLLS is "currently off the air," as in silent, but maybe that's wrong because Wikipedia says KLLS came back on the air in November 2018 after a Hurricane Harvey outage.

>>This timely article discusses the pending sale: https://www.rbr.com/a-silent-lone-star-am-gets-a-new-owner/

When will the sale be final and what do the new owners plan to do? Best wishes in the future, CW.

Do you know what the new owner plans to do with KLLS? I see it's the same people who own K-Alamo in San Antonio, that one is on 98.9 with a Tejano format.

I won’t answer that because I don’t care to get permanently banned from here just yet.

and theres more to this then advertisers just wouldn't advertise, I',m sure.

And we were back on thru the end of 2018 into 2019 until the DAX xmtr suffered a software issue.. Gates has told me that it will require a firmware reload. The old software cycled through the EEPROM several times a minute which put it only at a 7-year lifespan. KOLE has suffered the same fate as well.
They're planning an upgrade to 5 kilowatt daytime and dropping one tower which is something I knew could be done but just couldn't afford it..new call letters have already been applied for and will become effective September 7th, KWTH.. The KLLS callsign I plan to use somewhere else ;)

Following the history of KSET...
Congrats CW!

Well the transmitter was pulled over the weekend to get repaired. And today I've accepted a new job offer. Chief engineer of iheartmedia radio in New Orleans!

Congratulations! I was saddened when Doug Holland who had been at that cluster passed away. Good to see the job go to a pro.

Some interesting sites in that cluster. The Vacherie stick with the Katherine antenna. The WRNO WNOE boat site.

Isn't the Vacherie stick the tallest in Louisiana? Before the dial was crowded, 92.3 would reach all the way west to Jennings and north up to the Alexandria city limits with a listenable signal (except for the area immediately around Ville Platte due to my hometown radio station and 1st adjacent KVPI 92.5. When they would sign off at midnight, WCKW would blow right on into Ville Platte.

104.1 always seemed to receive a lot more interference to the west--I'm assuming from co-channel KRBE and 1st adjacent KEZP to the north.

Years ago WCKW would put a surprisingly good signal into Houston when tropo was kicking up. Haven’t heard the current incarnation in a long time, however.

I don't think iHeart owns the LaPlace site anymore..iHeart sold all their FM towers a few years ago...most to ATC or Vertical Bridge..a lot of the AM sites were sold too but not all...I know KPRC's was but iirc not KTRH

Edit: just checked and yep, iHeart still owns that stick..there was an Application granted for a new tower as a joint venture right next door for WCKW but it was never built..iHeart has no signal in the stick afaik though..mmm wonder if I will be overseeing that site..or BTR does? I can see a nice ham rptr site ;)

KVDU (104.1) is on the Vacherie stick and is part of the New Orleans cluster so that 2000ft monster is likely yours!
