560 KMON Great Falls, MT

I was listening to my Sony ICF-P20 deciding to DX AM last night around 12:15am in Citrus Heights

I heard Country, At first I thought it was KUZZ, But I heard 560

Then I turned on my Eton 550, Came booming in with no fade and no KSFO in sight

I have heard them too. I have to knull KSFO, but when I do, I hear a faint KMON working its way through. Not sure whats going on. Their signal is supposed to go northeast, but some nights, their signal travels in the complete opposite direction.

KMON was loud last night. They do very well when conditions are ripe to the east.

Yep! "Back in the day" in NE Ohio, even with other 560's on the air, KMON could make it in very clearly under the right conditions to the NW. For some reason, it has always gotten out really well.

Maybe they are staying on their daytime non-directional pattern? Looking at that night-time pattern, there is no way KMON should be putting any sort of listenable night-time signal to points west and southwest of Great Falls, Montana, let alone Washington State and the San Francisco Bay Area!

I'm hearing them right now. keep in mind, the signal is very poor, but I can hear them clear enough to identify. Damn good signal for only 5KW. I agree, they might be on there daytime pattern, and pushing there signal in all directions, but still, quite impressive. Additionally, the signal is not always there either, sometime its fades away completely letting a nulled KSFO to squeeze in. I'll record it for those wanting to hear it, but not sure where to upload the video.

I've never heard KMON here at my home location. Local WIND is strong here, and nulling them basically also nulls KMON (and often brings in KWTO). I don't have to go all that far to the west to start hearing KMON, however. I've heard them in Iowa (battling KWTO and KLZ) on several occasions, and in Winnipeg they're pretty much a sunrise regular after WEBC and WIND fade.

II've hear KMON here in Laramie, WY over/under KLZ Denver sometimes

See, that should not happen considering what their night-time pattern is suppose to be. I can see it coming in strong in Winnipeg, Canada and even Iowa considering they throw most of their signal to the north and points east. But there is hardly anything going south to Wyoming or any points west. Very interesting indeed.

This is what KMON’s night-time pattern looks like:

On another forum a few years ago a guy who apparently knew KMON's engineer said they did some work on their operating plant... either a new transmitter, or work on the antenna / ground, or something like that.

I had KMON pop up fairly clearly over KLZ Denver this morning about 25-30 minutes before Laramie sunrise this morning, KLZ is audible underneath but you can clearly make out what KMON is doing

This is KMON-AM 560 Great Falls, MT Recorded Friday October 18th at 631am mountain from Laramie Wyoming.. 512 miles away, NW of me. I'm about 150 miles north of KLZ 560 Denver and you can hear them in the background of my KMON audio recording. Below is an audio recording and their night time skywave map
